I’ve been using acorn style JT lug nuts (gorilla) on a set of stock JK rims (2018) for winter. The lug nuts keep loosening after a few hundred miles. I always torque wrench them and have checked against two different wrenches. Since the hub bore is the same does anyone know if there’s something about JK rims that might be different?

I think you need to check if your lugs nuts are 60 degree or I think 45 degree taper and see what the rim is.

These are working great on my stock Mojave rims.
The cheap eBay ones started rusting pretty quick.

I believe so. by deep enough you mean the thread depth/length of the threaded passage in the lug nut? (For lack of a better way to describe it). I’m assuming the acorn/conical taper is standard.

These (below) are what I’m using. I’ve also tried the stock Willys (JT) lugnuts for a short time and they also loosened.

That link shows a 9/16" thread pattern. The JT uses a 14mm x 1.5 thread pattern.

You might need new studs and correct threaded lug nuts.

It's an amazon link (it is linking to the wrong item for some reason) issue. The actual ones I ordered were in the image attached. They are 14mm x 1.5 thread.--I edited the post above. They should be fine as should the stock Willys/JT lug nuts. I'm at a complete loss why stock rims that should be the same center bore, bolt pattern wouldn't snug on the JT.

Any idea where to find that information on the rim? It's a 2018 stock JK rim. I had no clue they made acorn/cone tapers in different degree ranges. Looking online they stock JK lug nuts seem to be a bulge style and I'm not sure if that's more squat (I can't find anywhere online to physically buy 40 degree taper acorns).

I'm running Jk AEV wheels with my stock lug nuts and it working fine. Compare the nut taper angle with the stock ones and make sure it's torque to 130ft lb.

Maybe remove the rim and see how the lug nut seats in the hole? Also remove the wheel and install a lug nut on a stud and see if there is a lot of side to side play, that might be an indicator that the nuts are the wrong thread pitch. I've seen it all at one point (former heavy equip tech).

JK's take a 1/2 - 20 thread with a 60 degree taper.
I guess 60 degrees is 60 degrees, but a 14 mm stud in a hole made for a 13mm stud could be an issue?

I've done the side to side lug nut play on the stud already and it was just as stable as the stock willys/JT lug nuts that came with the original wheels, which is zero play. They thread smooth but not loose and both sets feel fine so I didn't think it was a stud or lug issue. Since I'm pulling the rims off in a day or two to swap to my summer tires I'll check the seating and see if it looks good. Based on the scuffing/marks (light marks not deep gouges or anything), I'd guess they are seating almost all the way (if not all the way) to the bottom of the acorn taper.

**Edit** -- Looks like 60 degree taper should be fine but I did find some online suggestions that there was something different about the "bulge" but seems that wouldn't be a 60degree taper anymore.

The seat should be the same. The only difference between jk and jl rims was the lug nut threads according to AEV when I called them before.
