Alright here we go…. Pack of card stock to make puzzle pieces. This def won’t be a quick process. Taking a few ideas from various other bumpers. I know I don’t want a wrap around bumper but I also don’t want it looking out of place. So we shall see. If it turns out decent I’ll offer it up as a DIY kit which I can also alter puzzle pieces to match a look you want.

I was going to just order a premade but most companies are 40+ days out. Which is telling me hey save money and do it yourself.

I’ll post up as i go but I’ll try not to post each individual puzzle piece lol. I’ll update as it gains shape to see what you all think too.

Looking forward to watching this. I wish I had talent and skill for fabrication. But I have no imagination when it comes to stuff like that. I can fix things. Just not invent them.

I picked up a Westin rear bumper for mine for cheap, paid $200 for it. It looks decent but it’s scratched up and has holes for parking sensors which I do not have. So I’m welding the holes up and I’ll powder coat it white to match the front bumper when it’s ready. Also has holes for 2” cube lights, not 100% sure I’ll ever use them but I’m going to install them just in case instead of welding them closed. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Not my rig but this is the bumper. Looks decent and should serve its purpose.

One of my must haves is a hidden hitch. I have the other truck if I’m towing something serious so I don’t need a safety rated hitch. I reinforced my buddy’s hitch receiver that was on his diy kit he bought and he’s towed quite a bit and no cracks on the gussets I added.
I’m thinking mine will be closer tucked to the body and not as fat as stock but not as slim as the EVO high and tight. Oh and a license plate pocket too since I don’t like the tailgate mounted plate. And if I do a swing out accessory arm I’ll mount plate there. I won’t do a swing out tire carrier cuz I sure as hell can’t pick up my 37” set up that high.

But anyways I think I’ve done as much shaping as I can do for top corners. I’ll have to take off bumper and hitch receiver to figure out the mounting then I can build the body of the bumper. License plate area I just added the bends but not sure how it’ll be yet just needed something in place to go off of.

factory bumper curves out in the middle area but I’m going to keep it straight end to end. But try and keep majority of edges rounder so it not just a box.

Here’s the top of the bumper, roughly. Thinking I’ll cut it in two pieces right down the middle or I’ll make the license plate pocket one piece and put the bend on top then weld the two sides but that might be making more work than I should. We’ll see. My cut table can only cut a max of 48” wide otherwise I’d cut one solid piece which is 66.5” end to end.

I'm in on this. DIY kit would be awesome. I agree on the hidden hitch. I've been looking as well. Not a lot of options there but it really helps departure. Cool idea.

The corners are bothering me. I’ll cut both rounded and chopped corners. I think for simplicity again the chopped corners are easier to work with and just cut another puzzle piece to weld in there once the rest of the body is figured out.

I’ll need some pass through d rings that are long enough to tie into the frame mounts. I don’t want to make the kind that you weld three pieces together and grind to make look pretty. What company out there offers longer d rings

Still like my bumper but looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I'm still trying to find someone to fab up some real rear light guard protectors like I had on my JKU. Not the plastic ones, a metal cage protector that bolts on. I know it want prevent the tail lights from crushing if you back into something but they are good for brush guard protection if a limb slaps against them.

Thats going to be tough since theres no mounting points unless you drill into the body

That's what every fab shop I talked to has said. I'd be willing to drill into the body for some good ones that I planned on keeping forever on the truck.

First trial of cuts top and rear face plates. I’m using 1/8” since I don’t have anything thinner.
I need to get a starting point so I can figure the mounts then fine tune the actual bumper’s looks

These pass through the back side. I do intend on beefing up that area. You could have yours water jet cut. High definition plasma or lasered.

Wait WTF! You have a water jet!?
I like the rounded corners better. But mine didn't come that way.

RuffStuff make some good long D-ring mounts. I have a set waiting in my garage for a future rear bumper. https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/R1422.html
