Gives you room to stuff a 37 down there. That’s why I removed mine at least ?‍

I got rid of mine to fit my 37" spare. I don't think it makes a difference having it or not. I rotate all 5 of my tires regularly and haven't seen any issues from heat.

I’m pretty sure its only purpose is to keep the spare from getting cooked by the exhaust. Maybe keeps some dirt and grime from getting up in the there?
