Here's where things get weird.... umm anyone know what the hell is going on here? My line was tied on to the drum, end totally frayed, with this smashed to shit thimble doing nothing. And what looks like steel cable gouges in the drum.

Then after inspecting it today, it looks like the winch plate was flexing during recovery and pulled the winch into the bumper frame. yes all the bolts are tight

That sucks... Looks like someone said "Eff it, it'll hold" at 4:59 on a Friday...
I'd be on the phone and/or email the company you got it from...

Was that how you found it when you unspooled it? Or did you try using it fully unspooled and the rope pulled out.

The thimble is just to hold rope while winding. You can take a piece of copper tubing 3/8ish ID and jamb the rope in half way, crush it in a vice, then crush the other end of the tube flat with the vice, drill a hole in the flat end and reattach to the spool.

Looks like the winch was sitting a ware house and someone had the smart idea cable winches don't sell and respooled with syth rope to move the product.

I made 2 recoveries with it earlier in the day just fine. On our way out of the mountains I went to re-spool & tension the line. Unspooled it without any load and the line just fell out at the end.

The copper tube is a good idea, but shouldn't have to do that on a new winch. I'd be fine if the manufacturer/vendor sent me a proper thimble.

Had a custom lanyard made for the wireless remote! Inverted the colors so it'd be more visible
