It's a 2020 - that's likely what they'll do. If it's like my 2020 was, it will help a lot. As for the stop/start, not surprised if they find one or both batteries to be an issue. It's the right age.

That's what I'm hoping batteries under bumper to bumper. Steering should feel better. Should have back today.

My results were mixed on battery replacement. Same dealer, same service advisor. Wife's JL always said S/S not ready - charging. They replaced both batteries, said they were both bad. My JT, exact same behavior, they said both batteries passed and could not replace them. Hers is a 21 and has more then a year left on warranty. Mine is a 20 and about 3 weeks from bumper to bumper expiring. Was that the key factor? Probably.

There's a VERY specific process that must be followed to test and/or replace batteries where warranty is in place.
It not only specifies the process, HOW to test them, when not to test then, to charge first if the voltage is below something like 12.4 volts, but it also specifies the exact equipment that must be used, the update status of that equipment, and that it must be wifi connected to send results directly to FCA
They can't use a cheap quick tester like a parts store does and say yeah, it's bad, we'll warranty it for you. They will be subject to a chargeback. FCA will take battery cost and labor back away from them.

It's a multi-page document. And frankly, after seeing how some clowns out there check batteries, I don't blame FCA at all. Too many "yeah it's the battery" types who will toss in new parts and then - oops, that wasn't it, must be the alternator and so on.
Batteries can fail in multiple ways - and as they age they lose capacity. They may start that engine in a snap, but be unable to sustain a load over time.
And testing a battery that's only 50% charged like some places do - seriously?

So be prepared - they may not be able to get it in and out in 10 minutes and the testing is very specific, as is the equipment. They do it right (or are supposed to be doing it right.........)

I was told the battery test takes about 5 hours assuming they need to charge it to proper levels first, and they almost always do.

Was also told my service contract that's supposed to guarantee 1st day loaners/rentals only covers warrantable work, not testing for warrantable work. That being said I got Chrysler CS involved and they stated quite clearly that while I'd need a battery test to come back as replaceable for it to get covered, IF that happened they would retroactively compensate for the rental during testing, but there was no mechanism to approve it up front, nor would they if they could.

Started having problems when my auto stop/start light came on. Jeep finally died, got it jumped and left at the dealer. They originally told me it would be several days, but got a call the following day and they had replaced both under warranty.

Have you ever wondered if the designer of the pretzel came up with some of these service/warranty/loaner things?
Sounds like you were in a figure 8 race there.

I'm hoping I only have a few months under bumper to bumper

Fingers crossed they have had it three days so far. So we will see!

Seems like an awful long time to determine if it's the batteries. My service guy said it normally takes a couple of days to get warranty work done, that's why I was so surprised to get it back the next day. Good Luck!

Show em the steering TSB. That plainly says if customer complains, replace the steering gear. No discussion, no check it by driving it, no nuttin else. If customer complains of these things, fix it.
