-Adding Nitto Recon Grapplers 37x11.50
-ReGearing to 4.88 (as I don’t do any extreme off-roading mainly driving between south Florida & N. Georgia with some overlanding and easy trail exploring) was debating 4.56?
-Replacing all control arms with Clayton control arms
-Steer Smarts - Tie Rod, Drag Link, Front & Rear Track Bars, Sway bar end links
-2 inch AEV Mojave lift

I’ve put a lot of time & research into this based on my driving habits and what I like for my Mojave… any feedback is appreciated

I think the common advice regarding re-gears is that you don’t ever just want to go one step up if the goal is an appreciable difference.

independent of that statement, 4.56s are a little high for 37s based on the literature- the 4.88s are a good choice. Interestingly enough, Ive met a couple of people while out wheeling and they swear by 4.88s with 37s for their extreme wheeling In their Gladiators. They say it’s plenty.

I may only do extreme off-roading once a year if that…so hopefully the 4.88 is a good move. My 37’s will be light as they are only 11.50 wide.

Maybe a little off subject but the draw backs of going from the stock 4.11 gears to say 4.88 would be higher rpms for any given speed and a slower top end speed is that correct

I have a Mojave with AEV 2” lift, light 37”” tires and a manual transmission. I regeared to 4:88. I do very little highway driving and often wish I went with 5:13’s. I think 4::88’s are probably the right call for auto trans and highway driving.

That sounds great. You’re basically doing what I want to do eventually!
Something to consider, if you’re going to have them opening up the differentials to change gearing, you might as well throw a front locker in.

That would be true if you weren't going up in tire size. Moving from 33s on 4.10s to 37's on 4.88s, the rpm range on the highway goes up a couple hundred rpm at speed, but puts you closer to the power band of the 3.6 so it doesn't have to downshift 3 gears for a small hill.

Research always makes for a great and enjoyable build.

Always what you want from the get go.......because if you settle.....you end up spending more money eventually buy what you wanted from day one.

Not sure entirely how it effects the speed, still trying understand the whole regearing concept

Very true! I have 35s on now and I’m going to take a hit (an even bigger hit if I can’t sell them) I wanted 37s and should’ve gone with them from the start

I Did consider that but with the type of off-roading I do it would literally be an extra button I’d push for the sake of pushing a button lol! in the end I couldn’t justify the cost and instead will be adding a Roll n Lock tonneau cover which will get much more use (from me) than would the front locker button.

Off topic, but interesting. I live out west so even though I hit higways infrequently it’s for hundreds or more miles when I do. . In socal people consider a 2 hour highway haul to be “close”. .not counting the hour sitting in traffic to hit the highway.
6th gear is so low, I was wondering if gears would make any difference in the mpg. I’m constantly dropping into 4th. Sometimes, since the thing is so quiet I find I’ve been driving for an hour in 4th (1:1 anyway)

have you any experience on a long haul down the highway? Do I really need 2-3 overdrives?

I previously drove two hours each way to my weekend home. When I was on relatively flat road and calm wind I ran 6th gear most of the time (with 4:88’s) at 65 mph. I averaged 17-18 mpg.

Mojave owner with 2” AEV, 37” BFG’s which are light for the size, and manual 6spd. Just re-geared to 4.88’s and drive mostly on the highway. These were the right gears for my case and am getting ~17mpg average (usually between 70-75mph on the highway). Regear resulted in 2mpg more than what I had with the 4.10’s. I would have been disappointed with 4.56’s.

This chart may be helpful (top is Auto, bottom is Manual) on performance expectations regarding tire size, gear ratio, and intended usage.
