Wanting to reverse my passenger seat in my 2020 Gladiator Mojave. My wife and I are looking at going on an extended road trip (~50 hours driving over 30 days) with a 3 year old and a 3 month old. I was hoping to reverse the seat so that my wife/I could tend to the children easier during the long driving durations and avoid us having to sit in the back middle between 2 car seats.

Has anyone does this? Does this seem feasible to accomplish? Does anyone know of any kits/instructions around? I have looked online, but have not found anything that relates to this topic with the Gladiator or any other Jeep.

My only apprehension with fitment is the legs and design on the legs of the chair for crash systems. Im sure with some welding it can be done but would require welding in my opinion to reverse the chair, and to reverse the reverse (going back to normal)

It’s not the easiest vehicle to do a n-month old on on a trip like that. But even my sienna minivan (taken on a similar trip) required someone be in the back seat often. With the right car seats you can fit em 3 wide back there. Or 2 +adult. I prefer the narrower diono seats. They cost a mint but you can get them used and they have an extra long expiration date. Proper sized cart seats will allow the rear facing in middle. Which gives you easier access from the front and maybe more seat room. Depending. Big car seats suck. I’ve had 3 kids across a long time span and I’ve found it’s definitely worth splurging on a good car seat. Ease of use and size considerations apply.
And depending on your 3 year old, they might be of use. My 3+ yo could bottle feed babies. But they’re not all the same.

Air bag to the back of the seat. Curtain seat mounted air bag to the driver. Or no air bags I guess. No seat belt feasible. I don’t know for sure what country you’re driving in, but probably a law for SRS and seatbelts to be operational in at least some regions and sitting backward is going to attract attention. That said, it is the safest seating position otherwise.

the seat wasn’t designed for it safety wise, but if you wanted to throw caution to the wind, there’s enough room to fashion your own brackets. Of course nothing like this exists in the aftermarket. Without taking them off and measuring, all other seats I’ve-removed were not reversible in any way. Tracks, angles and Lengths were different side to side.

All things being equal, minivan rules the road trip.

That would be a no.

Your seat belt/ shoulder harness is not designed for restraint in that direction.

Your passenger seat side air bag would be in the center and push passenger towards the doors/ B pillar and possibly an open door.

Do what we did when we traveled when they were young.

Pull over, tend to the kids, get back on the road.

As others have said, moving the seat would render the safety mechanisms useless if not lethal.

Might be legal implications if an officer of the law observes your wife "backward". If it's a multi-state tour it might be ok in one place and not so ok in another. What about the airbags or the safety dynamics related to an unexpected event? Going to Canada? LOL.

Because it is a bad idea for reasons already mentioned.

You should probably look into renting a mini-van/SUV or maybe a small RV if you are wanting your wife to have immediate access to attend to the kids.

Unless you got special needs kids, no reason they need to be dote on every second of a road trip. Millions of us made it to adulthood being ignored in the backseat of the family vehicle.

We have friends who were in the same dilemma and they ended up renting a minivan. He said that with getting significantly better gas mileage and not putting wear and tear on his Jeep it was a no brainer..

Just something to consider.

Air travel is great, but if its a site seeing trip thats a no go. I would not think it would be legal to turn the passenger seat around but it is to drive without doors in some states so who knows

Thank you guys for the responses. I did not realize that this would compromise safety to this degree. We will look into a different solution. Thanks again!

Your best bet if sticking with the Gladi for the trip is to have your wife hang in the back until the babies are sleeping and then can make the switch and get some rest up front.
