Hey folks. I’m in the middle of driving from New York to California 2021 diesel. But 10 minutes ago I got a message saying exhaust system require service required. But 30 minutes outside of Denver. There’s not a dealer anywhere for a week. Anybody have any idea how to track this thing back into normal operation? Otherwise I’m limping along I’m going to have to have a find a hotel.

Unfortunately no. I was in Southern Colorado last year and had a code pop up. Dealer along the way said don't worry about it. Should clear up. Which it did. I think yours might be a def issue. I also have a diesel. If they are a good dealer. They should be able to have a mechanic at least pull the code and tell you what's going on with it. Give you an idea anyways. Wish I could help more. Aside from getting a tazer or maybe stopping at an auto parts store who might be able to scan it. Good luck.

Hit up Jeep cares on the phone. Maybe they can get you in and looked at.

get the jscan app and order a security bypass cable from amazon and have it delivered to a hotel you think will line up with estimated eta. You can use the jscan to pull detailed codes and force a regen if needed.

Also call some independent shops, some shops have high functioning scanners that can read the new cars and force regens. Ask if the shop has a FCA witech subscription.

Likely you need to force a regen.

are you using fuel additive and mixing on the heavy side of the mix? Use less additive.

Try running a gear lower to increase rpms, this will flow more heat and hopefully clear the DPF.

I had the same issue. Dealer is replacing DPF. I kept clearing the code but it was a brutal trip. CT to CA and back.

On the phone with @JeepCares right now. They’re trying to help me find a dealer. I’ve been using additive to avoid fuel pump issues. I’ll be happy to dial it down if that’s the issue. If I wasn’t about uo ctoss the Rockies and the Utah desert I’d jump limp it along, but I’d hate for this rig to take a dive with nothing but sheep or hot sun for company.

What are the odds I can limp to San Diego and get service down there? I’ve got a house I can stay in indefinitely there. Best place to wait it out.

Another member posted they where heavy on the EDT and where having exhaust issues, they called Hot shots and was told to dial back the mix. It was reported that helped....

Take that for what it's worth.

Before attempting the SanDiego trip, I would see what codes you may have. If you idle for long periods, stop doing that. The particulate filter needs heat to clean itself. You can achieve more heat by driving highway speeds but keeping the rps up. Even if your rpms are low at highway speed you should have enough heat for regeneration. If the service message is from a faulty pressure sensor, driving to San Diego could be bad choice and lead to more system failures, like a clogged particulate filter. Good luck, but I would see what the issue is before I'd go any further.

I have been using EDT since the fuel pump issue came to light. Could be I got a little too excited.

The folks at @JeepCares worked with me for a long time, but even they couldn't find a dealer in the area to take me before next Friday. No idea how long the truck would be laid up after that. Since I'm 2,000 miles from my origin and about 1,000 miles from my destination, and I live out of this truck, I don't think that's going to work.

In the meantime, I stopped into a local auto parts store, and the read the code as "P24A4 Particulate Filter Restriction - Soot Accumulation Too High, Bank 1". I talked with the service manager at the dealer back East, and he said it needs a regen and gave me a few tips to try and get it to do one. His opinion was it will make it to San Diego, even if it doesn't have a lot of punch going up hills. I got some feedback from @wildtaco who fought the same issue for 5K miles, but was able to do a CT-CA round trip anyway.

So the plan is ... I'm going to grab a shower and a good night's sleep here on the suburbs of Denver, then I'm going to head out fresh in the morning and keep driving. That means I'll miss planned stops in Moab and Tocqueville Falls, but I should get to my destination outside San Diego in 18 hours or so (one bite if I can do it, two chunks with a highway hotel overnight if I can't). Once I'm in San Diego, I've got friends, a house, and lots of support, and if the code persist I'll find a dealer down there and get it looked at.

Thanks to all. I'll drop a note once I get there.

Still heading across 70? Through Vegas? Call in advance to the Jeep dealers along the way. You never know who might be able to do it and fix the problem.

For a few hundred at an autopart store, you can get a scanner with mode 06 data and monitor particulate accumulation. You also can monitor egt and figure out where you achieve max temp. I have an innova scanner that works well. There are better tools for this, but to get one quick I think the auto part stores are the quickest. If you do get one. Make sure it can read mode 06. Good luck.

I had the same thing happen with my diesel. I also had a stability code come up at the same time. Cleared the codes with my taser and rolled on

Funny, I’ve got the stability thing mentioned on the dash at startup too.

I’ll keep rolling until San Diego, and sort this out then. I’m hoping some highway miles with the rpm’s up a bit might kick in a regen and solve this for me.

I thought about that when I was getting the codes checked. If I need it, that’s my next option. Thanks for the tip on mode 06.
