My 23 sport has Hallogen lighting all the way around. I installed a Mopar Steel bumper that was a takeoff with stock LED fog lights. Programmed the Fogs to be DRL and to not drop out with highbeam with AlfaOBD. It was all in programming. Wasn't able to find any topics on this.

Not an issue in Florida. No Inspections here. Wouldn't be an issue in NC either. They don't care as long as the lights come on. Besides anyone that can make the change themselves, can revert, get it inspected then change back again. Takes 5 minutes with AlfaOBD.

Pisgahlj, thank you. I just yesterday installed that bumper, (the knock-off plus LED fogs purchased from a forum member) Fog lights work fine but, haven't used them during driving so I did not realize that they turn off while high beams are on. Nor that it could be a problem in some states during inspection if they did not do so. My 1 question is WHY? Is there some safety reason that I can't fathom that one would not want both to be on at the same time? Of course, both fogs &/or high beams on would be annoying to oncoming drivers if one failed to turn them off. So, considerate drivers do so. Another reason? Also, excuse my ignorance, but what do the following acronyms mean: DRL & AlfaOBD? Thank you.

From what I've read, it's about a rule that you can't have more than 4 forward facing lights on the roads at one time. The old days when standard US lighting had crap cutoffs, they limit the amount of light that was allowed to be produced facing forward. Example would be a vehicle that has separate low beams and high beams when High beams are on along with low beams, fogs would make it too many lights and too much light. It's antiquated rules from nanny states.

DRL - Daytime Running Lights
AlfaOBD - Software to modify settings. Supposed to be much more advanced than Jscan or Tazer. I haven't used the other 2. Tazer too expensive, jscan marrys to vehicle. I have 3 jeeps. $50 license works with as many vehicles as you want, unlike jscan. Currently using with my old obd2 scanner that I picked up for $20 5 years ago. Haven't needed the expensive obd readers yet. just the 12+8 adapter for $15.

DRL is Daytime Running Lights.

AlfaOBD is the software/hardware he is using to change the settings in the JT computer.
OBD is the location hardware plugs in to, as in OBDII, or On Board Diagnostics port.

Fog lights are designed to put a lot of light low in front of the vehicle to aid in navigation during poor driving conditions (primarily fog and storms). High beams are designed to throw the light out as far as possible to aid in long-distance visibility. Having the fog lights and high beams on at the same time makes it hard to focus out and pick up movement and objects in the distance with the fog lights putting a lot of light right in front of the vehicle. Having fog lights on with high beams creates a safety issue for the driver.

The great thing about the mod to keep fog lights on with high beam is you get to choose when your fog lights are on and when they aren't depending on driving conditions. It's not decided for you by the nanny state.
