Metal found in the fuel filter assembly…

33.5k miles
EDT or LX4 every tank 2-4oz since 2k miles….

Should I just get rid of the vehicle? I do rely on it……

(Yes I know the plastic is broke) I installed a new cap because the last dealership that changed the filter over tightened it…. And I stripped it removing it….

How many times have you changed the fuel filter?

Can you scrap all of the bits together to is how much is there? Because that looks like a lot and the motor is still running.

34k miles now, it’s been changed 2 times. Last time there was no metal….

I have gone to two dealers, both told me that they won’t trade it in, because they can’t sell them currently….

The service department at both has told me that yes they suspect cp4 failure in progress.

They also told me they can’t get any parts right now due to the strike. And both told me if it was theirs they would take it to carmax……

They both said there is absolutely nothing that can be done right now.

Basically I wasted 63k.

F***** you Stellantis.
@JeepCares

Let’s see if this gets me banned…. Lol…

I'd dump it at someplace like CarMax, take the money and run. The 3.6 I have found more then adequate. Regear and you'll be good

Are there any metal inside the filter?

Carmax it.

They are surprisingly easy to deal with and offer fair buy prices. I sold a 2019 Challenger R/T five months ago. They paid me 2K less than what I paid for it new in '19.

I wouldn't drive it. If the pump is failing, it has sent metal shavings throughout the entire system, including into the injectors. The typical result is it suddenly dying. As luck and statistics would have it, that will probably occur in a dangerous place. But luck has been on your side this time for you to have caught it before it stranded you.

I don't have an EcoDiesel but, from what I read, you can pull the volume control valve off the pump and inspect for metal. If you see it there, the pump is the source. If it is clean, maybe the metal is from another source.

I am going to drive it for another 1000 miles (if it lets me lol) then pull the fuel filter again and check for more metal.

I may also pull the volume control valve and check.

The main thing I’ve learned is unless it’s dead don’t expect them to do anything (even if they could) and they can’t….

I would do the control valve first. If you see crap there, then you know for sure.
