I feel like an idiot asking but I will. I have a almost new set of 285/70/r17 BFG M/T's that were gifted to me. The truck has stock 245/75/r17 A/T's. I have searched the internet until my head hurts but cannot seem to get a definitive answer. Will the 70's fit on a 75 rim? I do have 4 Rubicon rims in the garage and I have been shopping for new wheels but for now I really prefer the look of the stock rims. It is a max tow so I so have a little room to play with in tire size. Would rather spend the wheel money on other necessities like my kids (multiple) college tuition and car payments (multiple).

Discount tire says "no problem". Should have made the phone call first. Sorry if I wasted anyone's time.

The second number is the aspect ratio of the tire, or simply put, how tall the sidewall of the tire is as a percentage of the width. It has nothing to do with the wheel choice so you're good.

Additionally, since you said you have Rubicon wheels, the 285/70/R17 size is the factory Rubicon tire size, so it's the "ideal" size for those wheels.

Looks like your question has been answered, but yes the 285's will fit no issues. The 285 tire will fit comfortably on the 7.5" wide wheel. :like:

No offense to Rubicon owners but I do not like those rims and I only have 4. You'd be surprised how tough it is to fine ONE matching rim in size or appearance. Still trying.

This is a comparison between the two sizes
Thanks for the lead but I have seen the chart. Didn't tell me if there would be an issue. For all those looking for tire info you will find the TireSize website pops up more than a rash.

I am aware of this but still thank everyone who took the time to read and reply! I have put smaller tires on wider rims but never the other way around.

Thanks to ALL!

It didn't seem you were aware of this based on how you asked the question.

To get the info you needed, the question asked would be:

Do 285 wide tires fit on wheels that come with 245 wide tires?

There's always a next time for me to ask a question but in the meantime I will work on my grammar and diction!

Ran 37 12.5 17 on stock 7.5 wheels for almost 2 years with no issues so yeah your good. Discount mounted mine!
I appreciate the reassurance! Don't know if I'll go that far but I'll start with 33's move to 35's and decide my next move or next Jeep from there.
