Bill I have reset the oil on each change. Sorry for the confusion. Living in Arizona we are lucky to get three years out of a battery. You could try a system reboot and see if it helps (disconnect both batteries for about ten minutes). The head unit will take up to 24 hours to fully recover.
The head unit and center cluster both get their data from the on-board computers, but have no direct connection to each other that would affect operation.
From your original description, it appears that the oil life monitor was not reset after each oil change. This will lead to reported problems that don't actually exist. The computer doesn't know the oil has been changed unless it is told (monitor reset).
There has either been errors leading to your current situation, or there is a problem with the vehicle that is preventing the oil monitor reset.
So, let's start over. Is there an issue with the truck itself, or is the issue incorrect data being reported by the app on your phone?Bill I have reset the oil on each change. Sorry for the confusion. Living in Arizona we are lucky to get three years out of a battery.
Bill it is the screen shot from the cluster (in the first post) that says change oil soon which in turn sends that info to the app. The truck runs fine, I just changed the oil and it will not let me reset the oil life. It does say on the app that it turns on and off with different timing cycles but it also states it will turn off after the oil is changed. Maybe I just need to give it more time to reset but what caused the issue in the first place? Thoughts? So, let's start over. The new Jeep app is goofy. It won't allow me to do certain things and some of the information is behind at times. It doesn't work as well as the prior apps, IMO.So, let's start over. Is there an issue with the truck itself, or is the issue incorrect data being reported by the app on your phone?
It's not contaminated - it can't know if it is! It's going by miles, assuming you have not yet changed the oil. That's all it is. The oil life monitor has not been reset to 100% so it assumes you've never changed the oil and keeps counting down from that original 100%.Bill it is the screen shot from the cluster (in the first post) that says change oil soon which in turn sends that info to the app. The truck runs fine, I just changed the oil and it will not let me reset the oil life. I am kind of asking if anyone else has had this issue, and if so, was the update immediately or one or two days later. Also did they find a cause.
I like to know why something happens so that I can maybe prevent from happening again. Mobil 1 should not need to changed at 2500 miles unless there is an internal engine problem or an electrical fault. I can't be the first here to have this pop up on their cluster/app.
I have never seen this issue listed on this site or anywhere else. I change my oil at 5000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first with plenty of oil life left percentage wise and have always used Mobil 1 0/20 with the Mopar filter, other than my first three free oil changes.
How is the oil being contaminated in that time span? That is why I sent the sample to Blackstone to see if anything shows up there. I will post the test results once received. The failure of the not updating could be the battery or timeline. But what is the cause of the initial deteriorated failure notice?
Has no one else on this forum had this issue?
Sorry for the long reply.
Bill have you heard or seen this deteriorated oil issue before? Did they ever find the cause? The new Jeep app is goofy. It won't allow me to do certain things and some of the information is behind at times. It doesn't work as well as the prior apps, IMO.
I can't even add a dealer to it. Keeps telling me that there's no dealer added - so I follow the prompts and it decides, oh, you want to add a location! No, I want to add the dealer. It shows the dealer on one screen but on another says no dealer has been added.
In other words, the functions like lock, unlock, locate, honk horn and so on work - but the other stuff, not so much.
Bill I have reset the oil life back to 100 percent with every oil change. First three were done by the dealer and reset to 100%, and the last three by me and reset back to 100% each time. This is my 6th oil change. So do I have an electrical issue that is messing with my oil life. I am a trained mechanic so resetting the oil life is fairly simple procedure. It's not contaminated - it can't know if it is! It's going by miles, assuming you have not yet changed the oil. That's all it is. The oil life monitor has not been reset to 100% so it assumes you've never changed the oil and keeps counting down from that original 100%.
It doesn't know if it's contaminated - it's not taking a test, it's assuming based on how you have driven, and how long the oil has been in there.
Since you can't reset the oil life back to 100%, then it's assuming you've never changed it.
You need to get it fixed - or have a dealer show you how to reset it. It's pretty specific on how it gets reset so I can't say if you are doing it correctly or not.
But the thing isn't about to explode.
Yes with all three oil changes that I have done following the instructions in the owners manual and also the three done by the Dealer. Every time I have updated it was set back to 100%.Rereading everything, I don't think you said you reset the oil via the cluster itself.
Do that, if that's the case.
So, the problem is you recently did an oil change and the truck will not let you reset the oil life monitor? Now, the truck is complaining that it needs an oil change? If so, this is a problem the dealer will need to investigate.Yes with all three oil changes that I have done following the instructions in the owners manual and also the three done by the Dealer. OK. Just making sure. Given the other wonky issues you've had, I'd say it's electrical.Yes with all three oil changes that I have done following the instructions in the owners manual and also the three done by the Dealer. Every time I have updated it was set back to 100%.
Bill I did have a battery issue, dead battery a month or two ago that seemed fine after charging both batteries per instructions found here. It gave me some weird electrical issues that Hootbro helped with. Maybe this is all tied into the funky oil life issues. Thoughts? I will know more once Blackstone comes back. Might have just pissed away $35 for an electrical issue. It's not contaminated - it can't know if it is! It's going by miles, assuming you have not yet changed the oil. That's all it is.
