Ram Midsize Truck a Done Dakota Deal? Everything We Know About the New Pickup
The United Auto Workers reached a tentative agreement with Stellantis, with reports that the deal includes U.S. production of a new truck model.

"When Can We Expect A New Midsize Ram Pickup?
With Ram representatives all but confirming the final go-ahead design for a midsize Ram pickup was due this year, we can expect to see a production version sooner rather than later. That is, if the company could make a business case for the new model and meet the approval of Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares, though the UAW factory deal seems to have confirmed something is certainly on the way. Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. joked that he would "do it tomorrow" if he could earlier this year, and that the earliest time frame to expect anything would be (likely late) 2024 for a reveal, but we'd wager to expect something more like 2025 for ultimate production".

Long Article with lots of pics!

SO does this bode well, or poorly for the JT? I'm more worried about the longevity of the JT...

Im actually hopeful for this. Im pushing the limits of the my payload and REALLY hope there is a version of this new dakota that can pull 7,500lbs and carry more than 1,500lbs!

otherwise a full size or a chevy 2500 / 3500 van are in my future

Well wouldn't that be a kick in the nuts if they offered that in EV *and* HurricaneT format? Or an SRT-6 version with the Alfa 6 from the Quadrofoligioilioiolioolio.

Towing won't break 8000 pounds, likely. Payload won't change much; it'll be less for an EV version because of the weight of the battery. Since payload is determined by 6250# - vehicle weight = payload.

Unless the Feds redo the pickup classifications and have a 1a and 1b, like how Class 2 is. I don't think Dodge has the marketing chops or organizational cajones to build a Class 1 truck with Class 2 performance.

Not sure I would want a twin turbo Ferrari engine in a truck. I'd rather have the Alfa and get the handling and style to go with it.

I see absolutely nothing here about a Dakota, other than the author's insistent belief that it is one. It's all idle speculation with "they could" and "possibilities are" and "we made a rendering ourselves" and other garbage. The only factual basis is that Stellantis still holds the Dakota trademark (no big deal) and is reopening a plant. Nobody actually knows what they're going to make there.

They're probably going to make a Neon or Caliber EV there ?

My knowledge of truck classifications is limited to small/medium/Full-size(1500/2500/3500). I'm curious about your equation 6250# - vehicle weight = payload. Where does that come from? I'm assuming it is part of the class 1, class 2 you referenced later. I'd like to learn more about these classifications for my own edification, is it an industry standard (ASTM/AS/ISO/etc.) or?

If others are like me, I will always be a Jeep guy. I love my JT and wouldn't want something else. So, for me, the longevity of the JT would be safe.

I want to see a two door four wheel drive with at least a six foot bed. Don’t need to haul a family, and if I ever need to haul four adults we will have to use their vehicle.

there's a federal classification for weights based on GVWR. Class 1 is for trucks under 6000#, and I assume there's a % overage allowance for options that add fluctuations in weight. 250# is less than 5% of 6000#.

If you look at your door sticker; add the vehicle weight and the payload weight. 5050 + 1200 = 6250. Or 5075 + 1175.

It's federal, so it's a little stupid. Class 2a and 2b is 1500 and 2500. Class 3 is 3500 and truck versions of 4500/450. Heavy Duty doesn't start until Class 7.

2b is also known as light heavy duty or heavy light duty or something oxymoronic.

I want the Nissan van. A local dealer has an off-road build sales program of them. In a few years they'll disappear unless Nissan brings it back.

It'll be likely we'll settle for a Sprinter-style #vanlyfe rig.

It's a shame Mercedes dropped the 4x4 on the sprinter.

Of course, speculation as it has been for years. So, so many articles and garbage videos online promising this or that. It is still very much a mystery.

Looks promising for the folks in Belvidere. Although, I still have to see it to believe it.

A mid-size segment Ram is very important. All I have to say is bring it on! :sun:
