I tried mounting in many places others have but I just didn’t like it? So I decided to make a simple basic mount. Two sided tape the factory bracket to the plate I made. Will add Velcro felt to other side of plate to hold onto center console to eliminate any vibration. No kinks to wires and I have lots of room my knee doesn’t hit it. I could always design it a bit longer to push radio to seat more too.
Handheld fits where I put my phone too so I’ll use that when needed.

Why didn't you like the mounting position under the steering column out of view ?

Having to run the extension wire for the handheld. And when I was done I realized I can move the unit between my two Jeeps without buying another unit. Just have to buy another factory bracket and harness to tie to the JL.

Do you know how many amps that radio pulls? I wasn't sure the cigarette plug power would support. They will handle a cb without problem (there only 4 watts), but don't know if these higher power gmrs radios need more amps.

I don't have a gmrs radio in my jeep, but do have a 50 watt 2 meter ham rig, but its powered directly from the battery.

Thanks.

ahh... moving between two vehicles explains it. I only have the one vehicle I wanted the radio in, so I ran an extension underneath the console and have a plug so I can unplug/replug the handset as needed. but I mounted my handset on the passenger side, near the grab handle.

Make sure you post when completed.

At first I didn’t think about swapping it, it’s only $160 bucks for another but we shall see. Plate mount can be moved to the other side of console too. I’m usually solo when I go out on runs

I have the MTX575... I believe it has a larger base unit than your MTX275... I'm not sure where you are located, but security was another concern... what antenna base and setup did you go with ? What type of performance are you getting ?

I’m in California where theft is high, but with my lift, tires and tinted windows it’s not something easily seen at quick glance. Since I have the RSI cap im able to just stick it on there. I have yet to test it with the factory magnetic antenna. I got the bundle if I use the ghost antenna I’ll mount it up top too.

Damn Amazon took longer than expected to arrive. I need a refund now lol. But it’s all wired in and tucked away. I’ll most likely mount the clip on passenger side and cord rests infront of shifters in the dull void

I like the mounting bracket I am using. For my needs it is in the perfect location. It is very, very sturdy. The angle can be customized slightly . I can easily view and reach/access the handset without issue. I also like that the rest of the handset cord/coil is clear of the shifter area and rest nicely along the passenger side... seems there is more room there.

Believe it or not, the small antenna that comes with it performs very well. There is a YouTuber.. (I think he is hilarious) that is genuis when it comes to radios and he tested it. I have the Ghost and the MTXA26 6DB whip and it has been working well after I tuned it a bit.

I'm jealous of your cab, maybe one day ha ha... I lived in california for years, wife/kids were born there... although I miss the beauty and selection of activities , I personally wouldn't live there now and I am glad to be home.

If you are into radios, check this guy out...

For me the speaker on the MXT275 speaker is not loud enough.

Depends who you ask
Not being able to hear the radio I read somewhere about a splice that can hook into front left speaker so gmrs radio comes through that but does not affect stereo sound at all. I'll see if I can remember where I read about it. I'm planning on installing the MXT275 but have the same problem hearing and understanding what comes across.
