I kinda ran into a similar situation. I picked up a travel trailer and started hauling it with my JTR. I didn't like the fact that the motor spent a lot of time above 4K rpm. So, I started to look. My wife had a Wrangler Sahara, and I thought it might be time to diversify my garage a bit. I wanted to move away from MOPAR and the shortest distance to that and meet the towing issue was to get back into a Tundra. I sacrificed the Wrangler. I just couldn't see parting with the JTR. It just has everything I need on that thing. Plus, it goes where I put it. So, in the garage is a 24 Tundra TRD Off Road with a couple of nice packages on it (and the JTR). Pink slips for both locked up in the gun safe.

So, long story, I get it. I was fortunate to be able to keep the JTR and meet the need. And, all 4 dogs fit in the back seat.

Dealing with the VA myself... flat out sucks.

Aww man I'm sad to see ya go, but glad you will have a jeep again some day. And the replacement looks good - I like that blue.

Also, man congratulations on the VA thing. It is a painful and scary process, and makes you feel like crap rethinking about all the daily problems. But it is a blessing. Hopefully it eases your stress level and worries so you can concentrate more on getting by each day ok without being worried you can't pick up that side gig just to get food on the table.

And hey - look up homewardforheroes.org I think you might be interested!

I have thought about swapping to a power wagon or the new 2500 rebel having lockers now. But the one thing keeping me in the JT, aside from all the money I spent, is the width. Lots of places out here for me are severe pin striping for anyone in a full size truck. And most switch backs are a 3-4 point turn for big trucks. We have to reconstruct almost every haul route for the sales out here. But despite being WAY heavy - a large truck and that extra stress keeps me loving the JT.
I came from a Power Wagon. If I had to get a full size truck again. It would be another PW. You be surprised of the places where you can take that truck. I always think of the JT as a smaller PW. Without the factory winch.

One thing to note about the 5.7 Hemi. It's a high rpm engine when towing. It likes to be spun up above 3,500 rpms. I towed a 35ft 10,000 lb camper behind my PW.

Nice! I have a friend in Sandpoint area with one. He loves it - going on 3 years now. The only downfall for him is fuel mileage is terrible. 10'ish on average. I think in the future as I get older and don't want to tent it I will probably do a PW with an alaskan pop-up camper, and tow the TJ on a little flatbed trailer with extra fuel/parts..... I think the PW's are actually cheaper too than the Gladiators.

When I bought my 3G in 2008. The PW option was $6,200 over a standard 2500. Mine came with 4.56 gears and the 5.7 Hemi on a 140" wheelbase. The new 5G PW have 4.10's and the 6.4 Hemi on a 149" wheelbase.

After hemming and hawing for a LONG time I have decided to move forward with buying a full sized truck...just to say it now THIS IS NOT THE LAST JEEP I WILL EVER OWN.

Up until very recently I have had to become more comfortable with the idea of keeping my jt essentially until it falls apart...which given how I take care of it would probably not be for another 100k miles. Knowing full well I have used it hard for towing a 6k lbs trailer thousands of miles and would probably have some expensive repairs or replacements coming up soon. But my family isnt getting any smaller and i have been floating right at or danger close to my max payload for months now. And the reality is that its not feasible to keep taking my jt and my wifes jlu on all of our camping trips just to spread the load...though we will probably still need to when we camp in march/apr/nov sicne the dogs come and it will be too cold for long rides in the bed with just a pop up cover on. And I dont want to put my family in danger by intentionally towing outside of the trucks capabilities.

I have had a VA disability claim pending for a couple years, waiting to be seen by a judge since the VA denied me at first. The judge approved my claim and i got a very large back pay check. For the first time in probably a decade I am credit card debt free and I can afford to make a sizeable down payment on the new truck to keep the payment less than $500/month. All while not blowing the entire back pay check. (comical phrasing since it was a back injury claim)

I started searching and working with my local dealer. The same dealer ive gotten nearly every vehicle ive bought since I started driving. Ultimately they were able to find the Ram I have in the link and will be getting it this saturday. Ill hear back from my credit union on monday and will likely pull the trigger once I get the nod from them.

It has the 3.92s with the 5'7" bed, hemi V8 with the eTorque, and tow package I wanted. So it can pull 11k ish pounds and has a payload of 1770lbs according tot he B pillar sticker. The additional 250lbs of payload will let this be the long term towing truck for us! It has other goodies but the high notes are the towing stuff I wanted.

I will %100 miss my JT. I truly love this truck and have been blown away with what I have been able to do with it. I have no doubt I will end up finding a less than $8k wrangler as a project jeep to scratch the itch, while I also maintain my wife's JLU.

Ill still lurk here on the forums to helo folks out with what I have learned from the JT and to enjoy the community. Needless to say I will have stuff going up for sale soon so when you see the vultures start circling, youll know why.
Congratulations and enjoy that full size truck. I test drove something similar to that a few months back and man it was hard not to pull the trigger. The room and ride made it tough.

Thanks for all the advice on pulling the camper and good luck with the new truck. I can see myself buying a ram eventually myself but I'll keep my JT when I do. I pick my camper up tomorrow, 4085lbs dry, a lot less than your 6k deal so I hope mine will do a little better and not having any expensive repairs anytime soon. Good luck brother!

Another sad story about an orphaned Jeep Gladiator. Poor Gladiator. I mean really who cares about the owner. It's the Jeep who's being abandoned ?!

if you can, wait till the end of the month and they'll deal more. they don't want to have to make that payment on their floor plan.

I can completely understand your decision. I too had to move away from my JTM eight months ago for different reasons. Still missing the fun and attention that it got. And yes, still lurking here to keep connected.

Stayed with Jeep at this point with a WL74 Summit. More family friendly for us and really getting spoiled by the luxury. Rated to tow 6K, it moves my loaded Aluma ATV trailer like a champ.

You will love that DT 1500. I had a Laramie that I leased before my JTM. One hell of a truck! :like:
