Dude also drilled it out with a hole saw while holding it with his bare hands. That's a good way to end up in the ER.

A good decal shop could even make some cool custom raised decals to add some depth.

Seems like the path of least resistance to me, but I don’t have a cap in my hand to really be sure.

I considered decals, but durability vs price point is my goal. I got the 4 center caps on ebay for $25.

Couldn't tell you. Me and the wife cleaned out a 4500 sq ft house of a family friend a couple years ago when she was widowed after her husband ate the back of a semi-trailer on his brand new motorcycle. Moved out the same week and couldn't bare to look at any of the memories anymore. Really sad deal... but basically, I got a full work shop full of tools for free for moving the HHGs for her.

And I ALWAYS got epoxy...

Took some measurements when I got home. Center cap hole is just over 3/4".

I will need to bore out to 2 1/4", so I think I'm going to try the conical step bit and if I screw up the first one, I got another 4 to work with. Ordering the bit @WILDHOBO referred me to. More to come once that arrives. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Good luck. You should video the drill press action. Everyone loves a nice part flying across the room. . In all seriousness, maybe make a similar piece out of wood with the same 3/4” hole and test run it with a 2 1/4” circle drawn onto the test piece.

You can just epoxy a scrap piece of thin sheetmetal or plastic to cover the hole. Then, find center with your compass, as you mentioned earlier, and proceed with your hole saw.

I was thinking about doing the same but don't have the time right now.
I like the RT109 wheels but rather have the Jeep logo.
Buy an extra cap and experiment with it.

Yeah I have the extra cap from buying 5 wheels, but I do hope to get it right the first time

Well, I got the bit Saturday and decided to get started on reaming the center caps. And I luckily did find my chuck key!

I put it on my lowest belt drive (240 rpms) and slowly made progress. My clamp for the press is currently holding another project together, so I couldn't use it. I just put on leather gloves and held it as steady as I could (yes, I know; off my a$$). Surprisingly, the bit self-centers quite well; mic-ing all the way around has shown it's staying within 0.01" from center.

But unfortunately, I've got just far enough today to realize another problem....

My table won't allow enough depth with the diameter of the conical bit. So, I'm going have to devise a base with at least a 2" hole in the center to allow more material to be removed.

Exactly. I had to use one of my step bits to drill some plastic recently. I had the same problem. I just clamped wood underneath. It worked great. No need to have a hole. The bit will just continue through.
