I've bitched about this before and I'm still in the same boat. I'm mechanically inclined so that's not the issue and I've used every suggestion I've read or been given.

I'm giving myself a FAIL on this one! I have been trying to unplug the security bypass cables under the dash on and off for about 6 months. I can fully depress the clip with my finger but the plug will not come out. After some time my concern is about pulling on the plug/cable so I just give up until next time. Probably have about 6 hours invested in this with no luck. I'm a thin guy so getting in there is never a problem it just seems that it will NOT come out?? Although I have the splitter and a functional OBDII scanner this is the reason I have never purchased JSCAN. My tire size needs to be changed and my lights need to be updated to led but ...

If you’ve been thinking of replacing your knee pod speakers, do that. The SGW module is on the back of the driver side pod, and you’ll have easy access once you loosen the dash and remove the pod. I didn’t find it very hard to do with the right guide (I can dig that up if you’d like)

Then, there’s no reason you have to put it back in the same inaccessible location. Plenty of other spots it could go back there.

@fourfa I like your thinking but I've read threads in here that make replacing the knee pod speakers sound like a nightmare. I have just purchase extensions because I have not given up and when I do finally get them out I am not going thru this again. For now I am going to do some quick research on accessing the knee pod speakers. Hell, if it's that much work for the knee pod speakers than I might replace them too. Who knows :)?

Honestly I didn’t find it that bad. Definitely not a nightmare. You don’t need to fully remove the dash, just lots of screws and undo a lot of small panels in the right sequence.

This had a ton of helpful tips. If you pick a random YouTube guide they probably do way too much work and make it harder than it needs to be

Depress tab hard with one hand, pull wires down with other.
Or, very long nose pliers.
Once done- Use extension cable set then you never ever have that problem again.

The extension cable. Who knew this would be my most valuable upgrade. :)
Always afraid to pull the cable and that's where I lose my nerve.

I haven't given up by a long shot, I just needed to complain for a few minutes and rag on myself for being so hopeless. Mission accomplished!

Yes that would work and one very similar is on the way.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=SGW+Extension+Cable&i=automotive

I originally got the idea from one of the forum members here .

He made many a great video!
I was hoping that video would help someone. I try and make my videos as helpful as possible. Thanks for the comment.

Back when I first got my Jeep, I started using Jscan. I was disconnecting that cable so much that I damaged one of them. And I beat up my knuckles just as bad. Lol

But as soon as that extension cable came out, I had to have one. That one component alone is well worth the money. Crazy thing is that anybody can get that cable for around $30. Three years ago that cable was around $80. But, it was worth the $80 back then as well.

Also when you get the extension cable, I would try a pair of long nose needle nose pliers to get them out. I bought a set from Harbor freight that came with the straight nose and the bent nose. The bent nose might make it a little easier for you and you'll have a couple more pliers to add to your toolbox. Lol

@tysongladiator - On my way to Harbor Freight this weekend!

it was one of my first jscan videos and the first time I saw the cable extensions. They've been on my "to do" list since. I have also admittedly seen at least one other video of yours explaining electrical gremlins. Also well informed.

I don't know why but I thought you left for a Chevy? No judgement if you did and it's always good to see you around the forum! Thank you for your time and wisdom.
