Nothing but bloody fingernails!

How do you get the OBDII security bypass cables unplugged from the vehicle? I don't have the biggest meathooks in the world but my hands do not fit in that space. I know this is an old issue but my hope is that someone has a tip or trick that they can offer up.

I've searched the forum thread title under the term or variation I used above and other variations but found nothing.

Thanks for any suggestion!

Simple, small(er) hands and a small flat head screw driver.

I was in and out in 5 minutes...................if it was easy everyone would do it. Its sweat equity and reward

Sorry, it that came across as brash.......but its doable

I can accept brash and I am not a quitter so I went looking for a lifeline. Thank you!!!

The screwdriver bit was running thru my head while I was out running an errand so I am glad you confirmed.

Pulled the knee cover and used a Harbor Freight 90-degree pick. The hardest part is getting eyes down there. I felt like a contortionist.

This is basically it, I don't pull the knee cover, but I lean down into the floor board and kind of spin myself around so i can half way look up and reach up there and prayed. After the first time it got easier...

My hands are not small, and I had some trouble getting it done. I bought the ZAutomotive extension cable, that I read about here, and only had to do it one time.
After the first time it got easier I said! That extension cable is awesome.

Thank you for the replies. Extension cables will be coming soon assuming I can ever get the originals unplugged? I only put in about 20 minutes yesterday so I'll get back at it again today. I'd like to think I've overcome much greater feats in my life ...

Stop trying to do this while looking at it. Do it by feel and be patient. If you have the extension cable coming, wait for that. This way you can see what the plugs look like and better visualize what you need to do. Also get something to kneel on, open the drivers door and you can kneel on the pad and reach up under the dash and just do this by feel. It is just one of those things. Compared to some of the jobs I’ve had to do on either old British cars, or my boats, this is just tedious.

I found it helpful to pull the door harness and the retainer so you can open the door fully. The extra room really helps if you are not a svelte person.

I used long needle nose pliers, and a long flathead screw driver.
