Replacement parts for ZAutomotive cam?

So... had one of our maintenance guys at the office come to me, last week, telling me they had to run off some homeless guy who was trying to get under my hood, by 'pressing the button'.

As you can imagine, my immediate thought was.. 'Wait.. button?? What button??'

Turns out, the trail cam apparently looked like a release button to this guy for some reason.. and.. yeah.. now I have a cracked camera glass on the front. (doesn't seem to be the camera, itself, but rather that glass insert that you have to twist to lock in place)

Have reached out to Z-Automotive to see if they sell pieces for the cam, if you already own the full system (and have it installed, obviously)

If they happen to NOT have replacement parts, anyone have any recommendations for places to get parts?

Going to pull the thing apart, and see if the front glass can be replaced, and see if there's any long term damage to the camera itself... figured it can't hurt to ask.

That sucks. Looks like he used an ice pick to push the button. Hopefully Z Automotive works with you. I needed a replacement part and they helped me out. Good with it.

Just heard back from them, this morning... they are, indeed, helping replace the part relatively inexpensively.

Man, I wish every company offered that personal touch.


Definitely recommend them to anyone.. just kinda wish I would have bought my Tazer brand new from them, now.

Since that marvel of society was trying to get into the hood, maybe it's time to look into a hood lock?

I installed a set from Rugged Ridge after I caught some teens screwing around with the latches at my local Walmart. While I like to think that it was just kids doing stupid things (as they do at that age), I decided it was better to be safe than sorry.

100 bucks, cheap insurance.

Already got a hood lock, grabbed the bolt one, a couple of years ago, right before we installed the camera. Might be the reason why the guy thought there was a 'button' to press.. lol


(The bolt lock put a metal sheathe around the hood release, and is coded to your vehicle's key. Kinda shocked they've not made it OEM at this point, honestly)

That said, it DOES move the position of the camera... been meaning to 3d print a different mount, but it mostly achieves its goal, the way it's configured, currently.
