I use some form of trim restorer after every wash, which isn't often but makes a huge difference on my rig that sits in the sun all day. I've used a handful of different options from creams, sprays, wipes, whathaveyou. Today, I used this:

It worked great on all my plastics just like the others I've tried, all my fenders, mirrors, hood deflector, door handles, all look brand spanking new again. But my tailights:

Holy cow! Completely destroyed the finish on these. They were fine before the wash and applying this, I just applied it because like I said, I always do after a wash. They look 1000% worse now. What can I do? If all else fails I know I can pull them and paint some spray on bedliner but damn this caught me off guard.

I already tried applying a tire shine / tire black on top of it to no change. Didn't make it better or worse. I'll let this sit to the morning and grab a new photo to see what changes if anything.

I’ve never ran into this before, I usually use chemical guns VRP. You could possibly try putting some heat on it, I’d be careful though to only apply it on the black pieces. Maybe try the underside of the taillight to see if that could help before going to a more obvious spot.

That is more on whomever made those lights and the sub-par finish they used. Nothing short of a refinish is going to bring those back.

I'm thinking it was some crazy chemical reaction, I have no clue how.

Not to be a cynic; is there something on their label that says to try it first, on a small inconspicuous spot?

Technically? It says try it to see the spray pattern, not the effect. Besides, I used it on the entire rig, only the lights were affected.

No these are Rugged Ridge Flush Mount Taillights
Any disclaimers from their site?
My concern is that it’s probably not the same type of plastic as the ABS/TP/7 mix used on many Jeep parts… I also think maybe Rugged Ridge could be able to give you a hint on this…
