As the title states. I am trying to work out a spare location for a 38" patagonia.

I would like to stuff it under the bed with some heat shield removal and airing down but not sure if thats a legitimate way to go?

Otherwise its getting thrown in the bed I guess.

Find a good spot in the bed, even 37's barely fit

37s get close to the track bar. If I remove the hitch and go with an integrated bumper can I push the spare rearward?

And yes strapping it in the bed is always an option or using a 37" spare as a"doughnut".

See my thread below. I just posted a couple videos that discuss 37" & 38" tires in the spare location. Bottom line is there is 36.5" between the hitch and stock track bar. Repack either and you might get some room.

When I went from 37" Patagonia M/T's to 38" I used the most tread 37 and put it underneath. It just slide between the frame rails and heatshield and just clears the trackbar.
Figured having the Rubicon, I just will not engage the lockers and this will be much better than using a stock spare for height reasons.

I know not what you asked, but pretty sure a 38" will not fit without deflating and maybe still hitting the trackbar. Just an option.

a 38" will not fit even deflated. Especially not a patagonia as its a crowned tire and basically hits the hitch and the track bar....

After researching this issue a bit, I'm now wondering if I could fit a 38" spare by using a Clayton track bar or not.
I have the Clayton bent track bar with a 37" Patagonia as a spare. The issue is not the track bar now, but, the distance between the frame rails and the heatshield. I think you would have to remove the heatshield to try fit a 38" even with the Clayton Track bar, but, I do not think it will sit flat against the bed anyway. I have my 37" Patagonia with 8 lbs of air to fully fit underneath, otherwise, one side will stick out and you will loose ground clearance. here are some pics with a new 37" Patagonia at 8 psi. If I fill the 37" tire up to 30 psi, it will not fit. I really had to push it in there to get it flush against the bed

I have been waiting on this pics of this set up. I have the 37 x 12.50 x 17 Patagonia X/T for a spare. It is mounted on a 17 x 8.5 rim . I have not purchased the Clayton track bar yet. I wanted to make sure it would fit. Can you confirm size and style Patagonia as well the rim size. When running this tight of a fit, it does play into the total circumference of the mounted tire.

Exact same situation here, 37x12.5-17 Yokohama X-AT on 17x8.5” wheel at 8 psi and I’m just able to kick it flat into the space between the frame rails with the stock heat shield, and bent aftermarket track bar

That tire is a new Milestar Patagonia M/T Mud-Terrain Radial Tire - 37X12.50R17 that I bought over 2 years ago. My rim is a Method 703 Bead Grip Rim - 17 x 8.5. The tire does have a crown in the middle that causes the interference. Here are a few more pics:

Note: I was originally trying to put a 37" Goodyear Kevlar MTR in the spare tire location with the same Method Rim. I could not get it to fit at all even with no air. Americas tire allowed me to return it and get the 37" Patagoinia, which is a little smaller and I was able to squeeze it in there.

This is very detailed and great information. I really appreciate it! I believe my XT does not crown in the middle. It might give my tiny bit more room.
Thank you for this info

Rehash this thread - so running 38’s you can still run a 37 for a spare long as you don’t lock ( rubicon ) would you move the spare to the front or rear if you ran a 37 with 38’s ? Assume rear bit had to ask.

Can run any size spare if you stay in 2 wheel drive and put it front passenger since it has the FAD.

If I was going to 37 and needed 4wd then either front or back is fine, just go slow to not overwork the spider gears.
