I based my "opinions" on them from owning and driving one for over a year.

But now this thread is getting aimed in a bad direction of hate and politics and worse.

Note: I enabled the hood alarm with my Tazer. It works. However, after many dirt miles, the hood plungers got clogged and stayed closed.... then, I notice the hood alarm not working... So, I replaced my plungers, however, if this happens to you, maybe you can clean them out.

Remove plunger switch, use electric parts cleaner, dry thoroughly, reinstall???

The more I think about it
the angrier I get.
Jeep should program the hood alarm
on every vehicle manufactured.
It costs Jeep nothing
and gives buyers added value
and owners peace of mind.
Somehow, I feel cheated.
It's a slap in the face.

Not sure how you jumped to that conclusion, if you're referring to my post.
No worries here. I simply posted my opinion on the OP video, as I find Jeep EVs a funny concept. You replied with a picture. I laughed. No hate or politics involved in either post that I know of....

This thread is not about EVs or Hybrids...it's about the video and it's subject of "theftability".

Agreed. Like others I enabled with my Tazer, but needed it for other reasons too (tire cal was a big one, front camera on over 20mph, etc.)

Sort of like another manufacturer charging for a subscription for heated seats that are equipped in the vehicle but software shuts them off unless you pay. Seen another post where OTA updates bricked his car. I see many more electrical gremlins in the future, as more and more features are integrated and SW controlled.

Exactly.
So not sure why the hate of EVs even comes into it.

Jeeps are in huge demand, and in Canada, they appear to be stolen to be shipped out to other lands. Seeing one stolen around Toronto or certain other parts of Canada is no surprise at all. If one was stolen in our area, it would be a shock, but one stolen in that region seems to be a common conversation around these forums.

You mocked the EV Jeeps, said you couldn't figure why anyone would want/steal one and then said don't get you going on them......... so why even bring up EVs?
I just countered it with a picture because a number of us here, and in the Wrangler forums, happen to have and like them.
So not sure why the topic was even brought in?! Why the comment about EVs in this thread about thefts.

The video was about a hybrid. I stated my opinion, nothing more....didn't bring up politics or hate and you immediately jumped to that conclusion. I am not a proponent of EVs...don't care if you are...and you won't find me on that section of the forum. For all sakes, let it lie.

I am sorry I triggered you and/or offended @ShadowsPapa.
Your opinion, just like your wallet are yours. FYSA: There are 102 EVs at my local dealer. 14 gas JT/JLU.

Back on topic, I have hood locks to slow them down, cameras to catch them doing it, and LoJack to assist in locating them. Insurance when all else fails.

Mine used to hood alarm from the factory. Accidentally set it off once. But now it doesn't. Don't know what changed. I'll check the hood plungers.

I have a lot of respect for Police. I couldn't do their job.
But we don't see them often now.

Our JL's hood has locks.

Should I put a Tazer in it? What would I gain?

Nothing, really - Other than some of the live features it has.
It won't stop a theft unless they are just simple joy-riding teens, etc. who don't know about tazer and ripping it out to stop the PIN lock from working.
Anyone smart enough to go to the CANbus and get things working that way won't be phased by a tazer.
(the 'Tazer is god' folks will disagree, of course)

Has anyone gotten it to work properly - TESTED it, after enabling?
Some of the Wrangler people say that they enable it via JSCAN or AlfaOBD or whatever and it allows the hood to be opened, then triggers the horn when you close the hood.
I enabled it with Alfa. Opening the hood immediately triggers the horns. It acts like you pressed Panic.

Will have to try it on mine for kicks.

I agree with the person above who said it should be enabled right from the factory.
All that it takes is a simple code change from no to yes and a line in the owners manual which every Jeep owner through history has always looked at stating "opening the doors or hood will.........."
They explain in detail how the security works for opening the doors, how it's enabled by locking it in certain ways, just say "this applies to the hood as well".

As someone who lives near Toronto, I've done a few things to help protect against this... Unfortunately, nothing is 100%, but at minimum to slow them down.

1. Kill switch. The vehicle physically cannot be moved until this switch is turned on
2. Hood locks
3. Moved the horn wire to be inaccessible from the grill
4. Enabled horn on hood with JSCAN (Tested and it works, don't test this in the garage... its loud)
5. OBD Locking Port

Not everyone has this option unfortunately, but try to park it in your garage if it fits or block it in with another less desirable vehicle.
