I have a slightly modified and fairly heavy Rubicon that in daily operations averages about 5900lbs. My driving consist of 2/4 lane highway, city and some traffic. I live in East Tennessee so mostly rolling terrain. My average speed for all combined driving is just under 40MPH. I am on 37's with stock gears for now. I do mostly drive with fuel economy in mind. I should note that when checked by hand the average was 19.2 MPG. Previous Gladiator was a Sport S with 276/70r17 and was much lighter. I put 18000 miles on it in 6 months on the same routes as this Rubicon. It's lifetime indicated mileage displayed 22.1, but it actually got 21.5 MPG

It's been SOOOO WINDY here for the last couple of weeks, mpg sucks, can't make it out of the low 19s, been in the upper 18s a lot lately. When you struggle to maintain 71 mph and it's sticking in 6th or 7th to make the grade.
Otherwise, without wind here, I can do 20+ with my Overland.

It appears to me that being heavier and with more unsprung mass I only lost a little over 2 mpg. I do think that a gear change would pick up 1-2 mpg. It really seems to be a small price to pay for the increased ability...and looks.

My '20 Overland, stone stock (ordered 5/19, built 6/19, delivered 7/19), has averaged in the summer around 20.5 running around and the best I've seen on the highway was 27 (calculated fill to fill) and that same trip I averaged 25. In the winter I usually average around 19.5.

My wife's '19 Grand Cherokee (also built 6/19) with the same engine gets about 1 MPG more...the difference in driving something a little more aerodynamic than our bricks ? ? ? ? ?

I’m on 37s and regeared to 4.88 and I can’t get better then ~13.xx mpg’s. 19 mpgs would be a dream. But then again I didn’t buy a jeep expected it to be a gas saver lol.

Any weight gain - no matter where, tires or otherwise, will impact mpg. Tires can be a double-whammy. You also have rolling resistance of stiffer tires and wider tires, as well as the front they present into the wind (rougher surface, more surface)
Note that vehicles made for mpg hide the fronts of the tires.
Height also matters - wind under the vehicle catches the rough undercarriage.

50 mile round trip, downhill to Atlanta and then uphill north, lucky if I can get an average of 17 after sitting in traffic all the way home

Only at 1100 miles on it, but I am with city driving about 14mpg, got up to almost 16 with a 60 highway trip. Stock Mojave auto, only added weight is the Bak Revolver and bedliner.

That is interesting. I traded in a 2023 Grand Cherokee L Laredo for a Ford F150. I drove the same as the Gladiator's and when traded it displayed 23.4 mpg for a total of 17,000 miles. It truly averaged right at 23 mpg. One trip it got over 27 mpg! My wife has a Chrysler 300 and I average 25 and up on the same routes. I truly appreciate the 3.6 Pentastar. I call it the " Little engine that could "

Questions I have is what elevation are you at? Does that play a part here? Also, do you reset your odometer when you gas up or is what we see here not been reset since the beginning?

I'm glad I get a fairly healthy milage reimbursement for using my JTR at work, seems like I'm gassing up every other day. Think I'm at 16-17mpg last I checked. I'm stop and go all over the mountain all day every day though.

My wife routinely got 24+ (sometimes 25 or so) with her Grand Cherokees with the 3.6
On bad wind days, prolonged high speed or in the winter it was down but still, that was pretty good for that big vehicle.
