My real world MPG... yours may differ!

Hello everyone,
I'm new here, got my Gladiatrix on 3/29. I drive 28 miles to work, over a 5%-8% grade for almost 18 miles, the hit the highway for another 5 miles. I have a fairly heavy foot and have averaged 15.8-ish mpg so far. 2020 Stock Rubicon with 33" tires.
I had an '05 Wrangler Rubicon Sahara from '05-'09 and got about the same mileage. Don't remember the tire size, they were larger than "normal" and chunky off road type.
Below is a photo of my Trixee. (Gladiatrix were female gladiator warriors who fought against other women and animals)
I'm looking forward to getting her offroad and onto some trails. Anyone else from the NorCal/Bay Area/Central Valley?

Thank you to all whom have participated/responded to this thread! I call this engine the " Little Engine That Could" for a reason. It is capable. It is efficient. Horsepower per cubic inch/litre is phenomenal. The only major deffencie is lack of bottom end torque. Similar to the 5.0 in the F150 that I traded for it. That truck had 3.31 gears and 34" tires and with that combo was worse on the bottom end. The F150 I had with the 3.5 Ecoboost had abundant torque and the lifetime mpg was over 22! Thanks again for your input!

I just bought a oil burner (all stock rubicon diesel) and right now, getting around 21mpg with city driving (I work from home). Got t-boned (separate thread here) last week and its at the collision center now for repair.

I was given a overland gasser for the rental and it's averaging 16mpg...lol . And with 43k miles on the dashboard. Looks like whoever rented it in the past literally...drove it like they stole it! But I do love the pentastar engine over the diesel. It's so much quicker for stop-no situations and zero turbo lag.

I drove a 2022 Wrangler Unlimited with the Diesel when I bought the 2022 Gladiator Sport S with the 3.6. I had read that with the Diesel the power was abundant and the performance was incredible. My seat of the pants feeling didn't feel it. One little thought of reason is the light reciprocating mass of the 3.6. This makes them feel quicker. As a footnote the transmission has a light reciprocating mass as well. Thanks

Picking nits - rotating mass. ?

I've noticed that as mine has worn in, it's more snappy than it used to be on the lower end as far as take-offs and such. It's still not a 10 second truck, but it's better as things have worn.

My house is 5100 feet, elevation around me goes up or stays the same, stock everything right down to 255/75 17 BFG MTs it came with. Best ever had is just touch under 22 and that was 20 mile commute on interstate and kept it at 70. Run it at 80 and it struggles to keep 18.5. Average around town is about 15. Sometimes get 16 and other times 14, depends amount of idle time and warm ups. I’m sure at sea level it prolly get Corolla mileage. My spider senses tell me if I ditch the MTs that would improve many much more.

Best I ever got on my 22 Rubicon was 2 years ago on a 350 mile all interstate drive with a tailwind. Back then everything other than the front lower control arms was still stock and I averaged 22.4. At that time my daily around town driving was 16 to 17 mpg per tank. Those days are behind me now. For the last 7 months I've been running a Clayton 2.5 lift with light 10.5x35 tires, full width steel front bumper with winch. That lowered my every day average down to 15.5 to 16. A few weeks ago I went to wide and heavy 37s and now my average is 15 to 15.5. With stock gears I've got no complaints at all with the 3.6. Plenty of power for take offs and still see 8th a little. I've yet to take a drive with the new setup longer than 50 miles but suspect that will get me back up around 17, maybe a little over. I have also not towed anything with the new tires but suspect that will be a noticeable difference. Due to my towing habits, I'll probably regear at some point but so far, haven't seen a need.

Any weight gain - no matter where, tires or otherwise, will impact mpg. Tires can be a double-whammy. You also have rolling resistance of stiffer tires and wider tires, as well as the front they present into the wind (rougher surface, more surface)
Note that vehicles made for mpg hide the fronts of the tires.
Height also matters - wind under the vehicle catches the rough undercarriage.

And that's why everything is shaped like a high top shoe from the 80s with no discernable body lines.

Two recent trips from Tulsa area to Galveston, TX & San Antonio, TX both averaged 21.5 MPG in a stock Rubi with 33" 4:10 & 3.6 with varying speeds and wind conditions. I'll take that coming from a 3.0 diesel Silverado that would have been around 27.5 MPG.

This is the best I have seen 22.9mpg. Actual is about 20.5mpg. I see 21.5 to 21.9 most of the time, but doing the math puts it closer to 20.5. It's a 2020 stock Rubicon.

20 JTR, 3.5 inch Clayton lift, 37 KO2’s- I average 17-18 here in Eastern NC and got 19.2 on a recent trip up to PA. Return trip with new trailer and a stupid headwind-8.7!

I am expecting around 14-15 normally towing the trailer, as long as the wind complies.

I got 13 mpg at 70mph into a strong headwind on my trip to the beach this Saturday. Coming back with the wind didn’t get me any better. Baja Boss AT 35s and a 2” spacer lift is all I’ve done…

I’m on 37s and regeared to 4.88 and I can’t get better then ~13.xx mpg’s. 19 mpgs would be a dream. But then again I didn’t buy a jeep expected it to be a gas saver lol.

That's right where I am at too. Same setup. I do get into the 14s on summer gas.

I averaged on my last tank 16.2 (half were highway miles). I normally average around 15.7 on 37's. Running around town, in and out of traffic I've gotten around 14.9-15.5.
