EDIT: I didn't think of fuel, add almost 100# to my weight and subtract 100# from my payload calculations

Seens a few threads about payload being lower than expected and it was something i've been meaning to do anyway since who really knows how much all those little modifications add up to till you scale it.

Gladiator with me in it: 5340.
GVWR on the door: 6140.
Curbweight according to the door stickers: 5055

That puts the gladiator without me in it at 5125. So all my modifications (as seen in my signature below) plus toddler front facing seat and newborn rear facing seat base adds 70 lbs to my gladiator.

so i've got 1015 lbs of payload left, 800 after me. Throw the wife, 2 kids and a newborn seat in that leaves me with 570#. Add the dog I'm down to 530#.

Yep, it disappears quick. If i ever do get a travel trailer i'll need to secure and haul the luggage in the trailer to make sure i've got enough payload left for tongue weight.

That's a very good question, and sadly one i did not think of. Back of napkin math says if I were full, my scaled weight would have gone up 96 lbs. This actually makes more sense because I thought I was carrying more than 70lbs of shit.

so theoretically if you're a hair over, you can run less than a full tank to stay legal, but with the total gas weight in a full tank (19*6) of 114#, that's a fine line to be playing with. At that point you really ought to be hitting the scale all loaded up and not working math off door placards.

It's okay, i'm sure your wife will understand that you now need to trade in your mojave for a maxtow. wives always love hearing why our current vehicles aren't good enough and we need new ones. If she points out that you had 17# to spare, remind her the kids are growing still.

Hmm, now I'm wondering if I hurt or helped my payload capacity...
Took out the back seats and replaced them with a Cargo Dog storage system. Suppose I could go down to the basement with a scale and see what the seat sections weigh (I'm willing to bet at least 100lbs total, probably more)

steel wheels, load E 35s, added leather, armorlite, sunrider, doorless mirrors (i keep them flipped forward 9 months out of the year so they are on at all times), soft tonneau, BOLT Hood lock, Apex Autolynx, ARB twin on board with iATp 4 tire kit, rokblokz, xr fender flare extensions.

most stuff is neglible, but the 37lb wheels and 63lb tires certainly weigh more than stock and obviously there's 5 each of those. The rest are just a function of a pound here, a couple pounds there adding up. I should have read 5425 but i forgot to fill my gas tank. (also i save 22lbs by rowing my own gears).

But i don't have anything major like a cap or rack with rtt, or a decked or a fridge slide.

When I am fully set up with food, fuel and water, I am at 6700 lbs which is a tad bit over. I have the apex autolynx and love them.
