Best sound bar 6 1/2" speaker mount choice

So I am looking to upgrade my sound bar speakers to 6 1/2". I am planning on using the Select Increments JLJT pods that don't require cutting or the SSV Works JJT SA065 adapters that do require cutting. I don't mind putting in the work to cut out the enclosure but I am curious as to the possible sound difference between the two options. Can anyone shore their experience with either of these? To me it seems like I would get better deeper sound by using the SSV Works as it seems like a more solid mount to the bar. Since the JLJT pods are deeper to fit the speakers, it doesn't seem as it would be as solid because of the more hollow area. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Not the ones you asked about, but my two cents is regarding hang down. I just put in the Alpine spv-65-jlt pair in my sound bar. Even with the easy trimming to make room, then still hang down a solid inch lower than the factory screens. Any lower and I think they might get in the way. As of last night I tested them with the alpine mini 200w amp, and they sound amazing. They include fiber fill and everything for a perfect mount. The are one piece with the screen and frame with foam around the mounting border. No vibrations whatsoever.

Even with the easy trimming to make room, then still hang down a solid inch lower than the factory screens. Any lower and I think they might get in the way. As of last night I tested them with the alpine mini 200w amp, and they sound amazing. They include fiber fill and everything for a perfect mount. Yea I remember reading where you installed those. I looking to spend less money than the price of those for sure. Just looking for a little better sound from the bar area. I think you’ll find you’ll need to at least need to put some 1” tweeters in the dash to replace the factory 3.5” things. It was really muddled with just upgrading the sound bar to 6.5’s.

Very glad to hear. I had the same original intention. Good price sound bar speakers and done. It didn’t work. The vocals got lost with the stock dash speakers. I think you’ll find you’ll need to at least need to put some 1” tweeters in the dash to replace the factory 3.5” things. It was really muddled with just upgrading the sound bar to 6.5’s.

Yea I've already added Infinity Reference speakers to the dash. Big improvement. Also added Kenwood 3.5" to the sound bar but not as impressed. I think I need something larger to get better sound in that area. Think I'll return those to Crutchfiled and try some 6.5" in that area. I'll probably get separate tweeters as well.

I just finished buttoning it all up actually. It sounds great for a system without a sub. The alpine 6.5’s have tweeters as well, with crossovers to wire them together, which worked great with the factory radio. With something different I guess bypassing it would help. In fact, now that I’ve amplified it, maybe I should.

Yea I like the idea of the metal mount. By chance did you also install tweeters in the small opening? I'm thinking about going that route. I read somewhere that the 6.5 speakers actually sound better than the 6x9 in that area but I haven't heard either so I'm not sure how true that is plus sound is subjective. Appreciate your input.

I installed Infinity Kappa 63XF coax speakers, no additional tweeters.

Trailseven has some nice plug and play systems but I haven’t found a lot of reviews about the differnt options. Specially I’m talking about the Kicker, and Alpine upgrade kits they have but I know there are JL and other options too.

These SPV-65 look good and are weather resistant. I just wish I could compare these with the other kicker and alpine plug and play sound bar choices, and what about this 200W mini amp? Just a way to boost the SPV? I’m assuming the mini amp is for the base non amplified alpine factory option to give them a kick in power. Since I have the alpine premium amplified system maybe there are better options for what I’m after than the SPV.

I have the premium amplified alpine factory system in my gladiator. I find it muddy for some types of music and bass heavy - not in a good way: they sound pretty good for rock and metal but night tight and articulate for some of the more modern dance and job hop stuff. I really wish there was a way to add an EQ …….certain I’ve found the factory sound way better with CarPlay and phone streaming as the satellite radio and sometimes FM just sound tinny and I HATE it. The factory sound bar seems slightly weak and distorted once the volume gets up there. I’m assuming any good choice is going to be an implement.

So the goal is to tighten up the sound, maybe find a way to control bass better, less muddy. How would these SOC compare to the other typical sound bar replacements?

I did replace to dash speakers and it really helped with the sound quality. It really brought out the highs that were missing while adding a little better mid as well. I also added some 3.5" to the sound bar but I was not impressed with the difference in sound in that area. That's why I am leaning on adding 6.5" in that area while adding some insulation to help with the sound. I have not decided on speakers yet and I really don't want to spend a bunch of money either. I've been down that hole before and don't want to do that again, especially at my age. It seems that when I really find what I think I want it's out of stock. Like you I would like to be able to hear things myself as sound is subjective depending on what a person really likes. The search continues.
