Has anybody here found a diesel tech that knows our engines besides the Jeep dealer?
Where I live I can find guys that specialize in Cummins, Powerstroke, etc...
I know most of us are still under warranty and would have to go to Jeep to get regular work done, but what if you wanted some work done that was "unwarranted"?
How do or did you find them?

I know quite a few of the independent diesel shop techs that specialize in Cummins came from the RAM dealership world and may have EcoDiesel experience. Would not hurt to actually call around and ask if not already done.

My son in law takes his Ram to a guy that does really good work, when I called him a few years ago to ask about working on my 7.3 Powerstroke, I got a rude answer, LOL. I'm afraid to even ask about an Italian made engine!

On the surface, I get the humor, but that guy was juvenile to say the least if their ego is that bruised they get mad about it.

It is a simple question to cold call any diesel shop and ask if they work on the EcoDiesel and if not, do they know of one that does? If that makes them mad and say mean things, who cares? Sometimes you have to push people to get what you need.

Imo. Any competent diesel techs can work the ecodiesel as long they are provided with the service manual. That's how all dealer's techs does it. It's not rocket sceince. However, parts obtainable might be an issue down the road though.

Have you made it past 100,000 miles? I didn't think anyone had passed 5 years yet.

I trust myself for most things and am mostly still willing to get my hands dirty outside of the inconvenience of a major engine tear down for multiple days. Any accessory (water pump, power steering pump, alternator, etc.), oil and filters, brakes, fuel pumps, etc. and pretty much anything outside of dealing with the actual injection pump and/or high pressure injectors is not much different than your standard gas motor. I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong, but all my diesels are still running... even the one I tore down to the block and rebuilt has over 100k in a hotshot truck now, just remember to keep the spark plugs clean.

What I'm getting at with these run-on sentences is that if an out of shape professional not mechanic can figure it out, any shop that deals in diesels should be able to do just fine.
