Blown rear shock?

I was under my truck doing some work and I noticed a lot of gunk on the bottom of my rear drivers side shock. It’s not on the other side. I also have noticed the rear hasn’t felt normal, more clunking and bounce. Is this blown? I like the ride height (stock) but if I need to replace I’d like something less squishy than the rubicon suspension. 77k miles.

The seals are blown, those are junk now.

The OE Fox shocks are junk from the factory, Jeep fired Fox and went to Bilstein. I'm amazed those lasted 77k, mine failed at 30k and some have reported failures as early as 12k miles.

I'd say the seal is gone.

Afterthought; with 77K+ miles, you're due for new shocks anyway.

The seal is blown. Replace them with Bilstein 5100. Or I have a full set of take offs with about 20,000 on them. You can have them. just have to pay for shipping.

awesome, thank you for the feedback. any suggestions on stiffer springs w/o or very little lift that could go with the 5100? or are the rubicon ones fine? i have a cap and fridge, i think i need something a bit stiffer

I put on a 2" mopar, steering stabilizer and new drag link.

Synergy has a +1" spring that is a smidge stiffer than stock.

okay, rear Bilstein 5100's on order. everyone is out of the fronts, but the back is what is currently broke. thanks for the recommendations. also snagged the steering damper as well

Synergy has a +1" spring that is a smidge stiffer than stock.

I have the Synergy 2" springs up front and my stock springs with Daystar 3/4" spacers in the rear - with air bags. The air bags are for when I tow, I can keep the headlights out of the trees.
If I had a heavy, constant load in the rear, I'd likely go with Synergy rear springs.
I used them on the front to bring the front of the truck up a bit (due to the spacers, etc.) but mostly to hold the weight of the snow plow in the winter.
They are multiple rate springs so will give a nice factory ride without extra weight, but when the snow plow is on (300 pounds sticking over 2 feet out in front of the front bumper) the second, higher rate of the spring handles the weight nicely. It's a great ride and handles the extra weight of the plow.
I had 1" synergy springs up front for a while but it wasn't enough to prevent sag with the plow on the front. Think about it - the weight of the plow is sticking way out front so has a lot of leverage out there, and is likely more akin to 400 pounds over the front axle.

I'd do it again, and if I ever trade and end up with a Mojave - if it can't handle the weight of the plow, it would get Synergy springs up front, too.
Can't say I've used them on the rear, but I'm impressed enough with them on the front, I'd have no hesitation using them on the rear.

Ugg second try on posting this...
I had one rear shock that had failed before I installed a lift kit, "2in" the lift kit rear springs were not up to a Max-Tow package springs, so back in they went with 2in spacers.
I spoke with Air-Lift on Tuesday about taller air bags for my JT as the standard kit is to short with a Max-Tow package springs. On phone we talked about this and while on phone, I took measurements to see if they have more appropriate ones available. (The standard kit is 1/3 short of the coils length) with cross referencing the most likely ones are in 60828HD kit for my JT.

Pre lift and post lift "rear spacers" so this may be helpful to you too.

Installed the rears today, only took an hour to do both in my driveway. Huge improvement over broken
