Looks like it has almost a computer monitor recessed area in the back that holds it onto a stand or mounting arm. RAM mount might be a simpler way to hold it in the spot leveraging the sound bar. A lot easy to relocate the device to you’re other vehicles when you want it.

I looked for a different car, but think I’d lose too much performance when going down the road.
When I was testing it out I averaged about 60 down while in-motion doing 65mph. It was only on for about 45 minutes and I wonder if being on longer would’ve led to faster speeds.

Starlink documents say 13” distance and I’m gonna assume that’s from the front of the dish as I’m almost positive (keep in mind I know nothing about this tech lol) that it is a directional antenna array with almost all of the signal being transmitted up through the hardtop and not back to the rear of the dish.
The Starlink antenna is an electronically steered array that would radiate mostly upwards from the antenna, very little RF off the sides or back. At Ku band any danger would be close range to your eyes like looking right into the front of the antenna. RF at Ku band will not penetrate the body very far.

@OP Any latency issues when driving?

Had you considered any of the exterior commercial mounts out there? I know zilch about how it works other than it does.

That’s not bad at all. I average 100 down with the high performance panel, but frequently see 200. It’s awesome. But it’s a big panel. I have the enterprise panel at home and it’s way smaller.

In motion latency is is about 41ms, ping success was at about 97%.

I have considered external mounts BUT I wanted to be able to move the dish out from any obstructions the jeep might be parked under which is why I opted for this solution. Like this I can take the dish out and place it (hopefully) where it’ll have a clear view of the sky. I’ll keep the original cable coiled up behind the back seat.

I thought about getting the mini for conscience and portability BUT I wanted the best performance I could get and wanted a back-up for my home internet that supported all the throughput we needed in case I needed it.

Is it pay per Gb or are you on a monthly plan? I'd like to see in a year what your payout vs your usage looks like.

I’ll most likely activate it with the 50gb/$50 roam plan for trips and whatnot. With the option for $1/extra GB enabled, just in case.

it’ll probably spend 9 or 10 months out of the year paused as we don’t travel that often. You don’t pay while it’s paused. So payout vs usage should be very little.

My guess is density of the fiberglass vs the trees?
Agree. A lot of radio signals do not do well through trees. Thats why many businesses place their two way radio antennas above the treeline.

I run a Starlink Mini in similar location using a rear overhead rack with a mount that keeps it under the roof and power of Bluetti.

Nice.

I’ve read about metal mounts/brackets causing GPS issues for the dishes, are you experiencing that?
