Sections were C channel, even on my 2018.

I was surprised to see the Gladiator was fully closed when I got under it the first time.
Jeep frames have been boxed for quite awhile. Going back to CJs.

I had a 2004 Taco TRD xtra cab4 x 4, great truck, great on the beach. I never had a problem with the truck, Till the fram rusted about 2009. I traded it in. Toyo never called or returned my calls. They said my local dealer couldn't handle it the first time I called, then never heard from them again. That added to to me not getting another Taco, plus I can't stand 4 bangers that are turbo charged. I love my 2023 Glad.

Interesting and good for sure.

I've been under a Toyota rock most of my life, all started with the choice to go FJ over JK. Honestly, I loved the FJ, but the choice was made based off the anecdote that Toyotas were bullet proof. Sometimes I learn slow, some of mine were fine, some were really bad, lemon law bad.

Ultimately, as a Toyota guy I said with all the bad luck I've had I might as well buy the damn JT, which I had said "I'd buy a Jeep if they ever built a truck".

I bought the JTM and it has been great.

What I'm getting around too is I didn't know much about Jeeps, and so many Toyotas with C channel framing under the bed, hearing about how that's on purpose, for flex and all. I got to the point where I no longer even cared or checked. We bought our Grenadier last year and I was impressed with how the frame is fully boxed and seemingly overbuilt. I got under the Jeep and was pleased to see I couldn't find any open framing anywhere. I just wasn't used to seeing that anymore.

I don't have any resentment toward Toyota, rather I just don't wear rose colored glasses anymore. Comparing the Tacoma's and the Gladiator only leave me feeling like I waited too long to make the switch. Lot of people still harp on Jeeps but there seem to be just as many 40+ year old Jeeps on the road as Toyotas.

I think those high earners, $100k is the new $50 it feels like, are the ones valuing these for nostalgia and the like. The ones that are used are still going for $10-$15k depending on mileage and condition in my parts from what I understand. There is a lot to be said for the last of true simplicity, serviceability and parts availability.

What’s with everyone going to the 4cylinder turbos’? The Canyon/Colorado’s did the same….. 🙄 No other options…..

Yea…I used to be a Toyota fan. After they swapped the frame on my 2007, the truck was never the same as it was before. Traded it for a 2016 Canyon. Brand loyalty went out the window. Had that Canyon for 8 years and never had a lick of problems with it.

Here’s hoping this ’24 JT can be just as trouble free…. KNOCK ON WOOD!!

It's the Feds , they have to meet cafe standards by a certain date. The Feds keep raising it every year it seems. So the manufacturers cheapen the product, They think a 4 banger Turbo was the answer . It wasn't, It gets worse MPG than the V-6 , you have to get into the turbo to get the power, so more gas. Plus it's good for the manufacturer, The turbo will wear your engine out faster. I was in the auto business for 34 years, They do nothing for the customer, it's all for profit. I feel right now Chevy, GMC, Ram are the top 3 brands. Ford has jumped to the rear with Toyota. So far my 2023 Glad has had no problems other than the stupid Aux battery. This is why I leased the truck. If the battery last 3 years, they get it back with the same Batteries. Hopefully Jeep solves the problems with The JT by the time my lease is up. I would get another one, I love the truck. If not, There could be a Chevy or a GMC in the futher.

I’m not worried about the Aux Battery - I‘d just replace the battery (both batteries) and move on.🤷‍♀️ I have a 2024 Mojave and this is the first vehicle I’ve ever owned with 2 batteries. Granted… I have a Tazer and have the ASS turned off. I have no idea how that’ll affect the life of either battery. That remains to be seen…. I‘ve had the truck since March.

It wouldn’t surprise me that I’d need to replace both batteries within 3 years….. That seems to be the norm with most ‘newer’ vehicles these days.

The Tacoma frames were rusting from the INSIDE out…… You couldn’t tell from the outside at all. My 2007 looked like that…. nice and black, even after 9 years.

But once the dealership would do their inspections….. they’d start poking at known spots. I think the rule was… If they could poke at any given spot and create A 2” hole - the frame would fail inspection.

Hopefully, they figured out the issues in the newer trucks - since it could take up to 10 years before they see any issues.
I am fully aware of their frame rust issues, as well as the buy back and replacement programs.

Still two of the greatest vehicles I've ever owned.

They bought my 2000 and paid me 1.5X KBB Retail.
I used that money to buy my 2005. They recalled that one and replaced the frame on it at no charge.

Still two of the greatest vehicles I've ever owned.

Frame? Look at the pictures and then go look under your Gladiator. LOL

I think the responses were due to this comment. I'm not sure it was fully self explanatory. If by looking under my Gladiator I was to infer the Tacoma frame pictured was somehow better, I don't know that I agree. Which, I think was the reason behind the multiple responses to that context.

While not cleaned like the Tacoma frame has clearly been, it does not have rust on the driveshaft right behind the transmission support. Nor does it have rust on the rear third member driveshaft area. The frame on this Tacoma both looks clean and as I would expect on a Tacoma. Compare the exhaust coloration and the mileage on the truck seems to fit, the exhaust has no burnt on debris as any vehicle does after a few years on the road. Yet, there is rust already growing, fairly visible in spots, despite the mileage. The rate of rust corrosion to miles on the truck looks about typical to a Tacoma. I imagine further use would results in progression like I've seen on my Toyotas.

Basically, I prefer the frame on my JT to this Tacoma.

I would assume that a 2003 Toyota aleady has a lot of electronic stuff inside which is sometimes difficult or impossible to repair.

About three years ago I sold my loyal 3004 BMW E46 320i touring which was with approx. 150K miles still in a really good shape because of some electronic issues (DCS, check engine) which couldn't be detected. At least not with reasonable efforts.

Can imagine that similiar things might happen to a 2003 Tacoma. I would say 20-25 would be more appropriate. ;)
