A.I. and automation are the death sentence for human labor doing menial tasks....and even many mid-level human tasks. All those flunkees and dropouts won't even be able to flip burgers anymore.

But...tariffs and renaming bodies of water will solve it.
but it will cement him in a history book nobody will read.

There is still a lot of opportunity in this country if people are willing to train for it, move to it and not be afraid of generating a bead of sweat once in awhile.

But then again what's the alternative? Its only a matter of time before Walmart and Amazon don't need people anymore. Then what? 90% of the population just lives off government allowance?
Honestly, that is the ideal future. We continue to get exponentially efficient. We ideally will get to a place where most humans don't need to work anymore, freeing us to follow our true passions and interests, which drives further innovation and furthers the human race. The next da Vinci isn't going to develop if they are stuck in a factory 60+ hours a week just to survive.

That is a very Utopian view.

Well it's either charge the corporations an automation tax to fund a universal income, or just let them automate anyways while everyone not skilled enough fights over scraps.

No matter what, the jobs are guaranteed to go away.

Yeah, I have no answers to these problems but I know people and free time to pursue their interest will usually mean their vices. So far, pretty much most if not all of the UBI experiments that have been done of any considerable size showed that outcome.

The same argument was used when we established the 40 hour work week.

All the study results I have seen showed the opposite. Decrease in depression and vices, increase in savings and investments, and an increase in productivity by those in poverty largely because most people pivoted to opening their own businesses.

There will always be people that give in to their vices, but those people are doing it without UBI anyways. The myth that everyone will just sit around and collect a check has been proven false in every UBI experiment. And honestly, I don't care what people do with their free time now, UBI isn't going to change that.

Not sure how we ended up in UBI but Trump delayed the tariffs to negotiate. And now targets a lower rate. 25% won't move plants. It will cost. But won't change supply flows

You think blue collar workers will have a place in this world you speak of?

Good to disagree on some things. I am sure we could both go down a rabbit hole with tit for tat counterpoints.

Depends on how skilled you are. We already have Boston Dynamics robots on job sites here, and the company my friend is working for is developing robots that can do electrical rough in and basic final connections. If the job is repetitive, it's getting automated sooner rather than later.
