My concern would be a bmw turbo offroading. I am anti turbo for off roading. If she wants to wheel. Steer her to something with an na engine. If it's just for show. Should be fine.
Really can't understand why grenadier didn't offer an na v8 at this price point.
There are Grenadiers that have wheeled all the way across Africa, and a good portion of Alaska, in winter.

They have been exceptionally reliable.

I too am probably going to pick one up as a daily driver.

So, to those who know, please be clear: What axles does the Grenadier have?

I am guessing that it's Dana 44's.

A BMW engine with ZF transmission has been going on for years in BMWs.
ZF transmissions are now in Jeeps. It is my understanding that what is now owned by Stellantis: Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Chrysler, gained a lot from the Daimler period. In everything quality and performance. My Dodge Challenger looks more Daimler - Mercedes underneath than any other Dodge that I have ever owned before.

The Grenadier's - Land Rover look is cool and interesting, and the Grenadier is probably better than anything that the true Rover company produces. Or better than anything that they ever did, as far as reliability is concerned.

The issue I have is France production and price.

I think the Grenadier is good to go, if you can afford the membership fee, and you can risk (financially) the possibly of owning a 'collectable' paperweight if they fail.

Cheerio, Au revoir.

Imagine if Jeep kept solid front and rear axles in the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and the latest Wagoneer. IMO... Then they could charge the prices that they do.

Imagine if Toyota still imported solid front axle Land Cruisers and trucks into the states.... Jeep might be back to the CJ days selling cheap offroad vehicles like the Mahindra ROXOR.

Imagine if Ford put solid front axles in the new Bronco.

Sometimes CEO's need to pay attention.

Hi all,

It’s time to start looking for our next car.. fret not, the gladiator is staying, but my wife wants to get back into the rugged realm. She had a 14 JK on 35s back in the day, and currently drives an x3m40i. It’s nearing end of life for bmws (~75,000 miles) and her heart is set on a new grenadier.

does anyone here have first hand experience? Obviously same power plant as her current x3, (b58 but detuned) and same transmission, but solid axles, tremec transfer case, and simple ladder frame. Anything I’m missing?
Why do you think the X3 M40i is near end of life at about 75k miles? These are not the BMWs of the past. Unless there is a current issue, modern BMWs are very reliable cars when taken care of well, even making a lot of extra power.

I get wanting a different experience, and that's totally fine, but I wouldn't do it just based on the mileage of the BMW. Especially if you can turn a wrench.

I daily drove a 2019 X3 M40 for 3 years, with my own custom tune, stock motor other than the high pressure fuel pump and intake, E85. Was pushing 23-24 pounds of boost. Bullet proof for those 3 years. Never consumed a drop of oil. Car had not a single issue, far more reliable than any of the 7 Jeep and Ram vehicles I've had.

The S58 engine in my M4 is wildly robust an reliable. That thing is hardly breaking a sweat with my own 32 PSI custom tune, and a custom ZF transmission tune.

😆 As interesting as they seem…. the nearest dealer (to me) is 58 miles away.😳
We did that once….bought a vehicle ( closest dealership was 30 miles away). That got to be a pain in the ass…. couldn’t trust taking it to a different dealer locally.

It’s rare…but on occasion, I’ll get compliments on the JT & there’s not a whole lot of Jeeps in this are to begin with. But in all seriousness? I’d rather have an original CJ, Bronco, FJ40, or even a Harvester.

Driving a Grenadier and all the attention?? I’d likely get the urge to slap someone.😆 If it were my hubby… He’d talk to people for hours!!

Grenadier is not good.

Jeep Gladiator It’s time. Grenadier PHOTO-2024-02-04-10-55-23

No, that's a just a joke. I think that was the drivers fault.

I have no own experience but I know 2 Grenadier owners and both are very happy with their vehicles. One of them was with us at our last Jeep meeting and the offroad capability is equal to JL and JT.

Ride quality on road is comparable to the JT with lower wind noises.

I have heard about minor electronic problems but I think this will be fixed or has been already.

I am still more than happy with my VM engine in the JT but if I could swap to a BMW I would do it immediately.

I bet the Grenadier is better in most aspects - unmodified - compared to a JT.

but as it was written before, comparing a truck with a bed to a closed cab, makes no real sense to me.
The engine of Grenadier is great, there are already ton of reviews online, try youtube and RonnyDahl in Australia, he even got serious off road miles.

Basically I would expect its a good car, as the founder of Ineos was "pi**ed" that the new Defender looks as awfull as it does, and thus created his "own" 4x4....

and I agree as well, its away from the ordinary.

I've put about 8,000 miles on a Grenadier as a comp mule.

It's faster, tows better, rides better, offroads better than my Mojave.

Two things keep me out of one personally.

1. Price, I simply am unwilling to spend it. If it was 55k, no question, I'd buy it today in spite of #2

2. no idea if they'll be around in 5 years, so that makes me leery.

Valid, although Im not so worried about parts availability, I am tentative on my expectations for the brands foothold in the US.

If though it does happen to fail as a US base vehicle I do imagine the resale value would increase over time. Not using it as a daily at that point would be a consideration. The truck is very much an experiment for now.

Meh..... I'd opt for another Jeep - Gladiator or Wrangler. Or get something that's been around a long time, like a Land Rover (if you gotta have 'that look') or a G wagon if you've got money to burn. 🤮
Methinks you missed the "her heart is set". The only acceptable response is "yes ma'am"! :lipssealed:

It's not even a great concern of mine. More like something to take note of I suppose.

I have concerns about the long term viability of the 3.6 in my Gladiator as well, I'm just confident that the aftermarket will step up with more CAN bus hacks for engine swaps by the time I really care in 6-7 years.

I just watched a review of the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster. It’s their pickup truck version. I’m already salivating over it and I only have a couple thousand miles in the JT. I’ve seen several of the wagon versions around my neighborhood in Northern Utah. If they start selling the pickup I’m going to be very glad I got the super deep discounts on my Mojave. I kicked myself for not getting a Defender back before the Disco. It will be interesting to see their reliability. I can justify it after a couple of years :)

Am I the only guy here whose wife couldn't give two shits about what she drives? My wife drives a 2015 Hyundai Equus (now called Genesis G90). Just turned over 100k miles, and all it's needed was AC compressor under warranty and tires. The 5.0 liter V8 just goes, and the thing is tomb quiet. I'm just glad that she was always more worried about what our kids drive than what she drove. I guess I'm lucky like that. Now the house is another story.
