Let me be clear:

It is not about the officer or the law. It is not about the judge and the court hearing in 3 months.

It is about being safe and not causing accidents. It is about saving lives and damage to personal property. It is about having common sense, no matter what one thinks 'his rights' are.

If the flow is going 15 over the posted speed limit and one can't conform, then get off of the road.

Take side streets and practice the 'slow on the gas' mantra with your latte and your lawyer on the phone.

If saving gas is one's top priority and most everyone else is on their way to work. Or maybe a commercial driver trying to get to his warehouse delivery in time. And the hypermiler is cruising at barely the posted limit listening to classical music ignoring the car horns and randomly flipping off the other drivers as they go by.

Who is the problem.

1) Maximum tire pressure without overinflation. (~37psi for my JTR).
2) Minimize time running while parked. ie. Don't crank it up and then sit there while messing with your phone, etc. & shut it off as soon as you arrive.
3) Accelerate gently... like you have a raw egg between your foot & the accelerator pedal. I only accelerate (very gently) up to ~30 mph, and then engage the cruise control & any subsequent acceleration is done 1mph at a time via the cruise control.
4) Minimal acceleration while going uphill. Preferably just hold the throttle steady, and let it lose a mph or 3 while climbing hills. Make the speed back up when on level ground or going downhill. The 3.6L is great for just maintaining speed on flat ground, but gets very thirsty under acceleration.
5) Keep speed <60mph. Under 55 even better. 35-53 is the magic range. Remember that you have no aerodynamics. 46-52mph is your *ideal* speed *if* it won't cause you to have to slow down soon afterwards to time the next traffic light.
6) Time your approach to traffic lights. If you have to come to a stop, you timed it wrong. Plan ahead. You want to brake as little as possible. If you have to brake, it means you should have let off the gas sooner, or lowered your speed earlier.
7) If on level ground, use your cruise control as much as possible, and only increase/decrease in 1 mph increments little by little.
8) Keep your gauge set to the dial that shows your mileage, both overall & current as a constant reminder.
9) Any steep enough hill, as you round the top of the hill let off early enough to coast down the hill without touching the brakes if possible.
10) IMO A tonneau cover will help slightly at highway speeds.
11) Minimize weight. Don't lug around extra weight if it's not needed. ie. Throw most of your recovery gear in the shed until your next off-road expedition.
12) Stick with near stock overall gearing ratios.

ps. Don't drag butt in heavy traffic of course. Leave early, take back roads, enjoy the ride.

It is really a moot point. People disagree. I try to convince people to save lives and prevent property damage while others talk about lawyers and their rights to drive slow to save gas on road trips.

One of my brothers is a aerospace engineer. He says that he drives the speed limit every day in his Tesla. Counting charging stations as he goes.

He boasts that his Tesla is faster than my Hemi Challenger, zero to 60, yet he never goes faster than the speed limit and practices slow acceleration to save battery power.

OK brother. Wtf?

If he wasn't my blood brother, and we didn't have the same mother; I would have no communication with him.

So there we go.

Be well. Drive safe if it agrees with you. Jeep on

No, it's a right to follow the law, not speed, not be ticketed for speeding,
and not have to explain to an insurance agent how you got 3 speeding tickets in 2 months (been there, done that)
Driving the speed limit isn't "driving slow".

We all have the right to follow laws. I can't control what others do or choose to do, but can control my own driving.

Sometimes the ability to go fast, or get up to speed really really fast is good enough - without actually doing it all the time.

Sorry but that's funny. Lawyers and others say - as long as you aren't going UNDER the speed limit to the extent that you impede traffic, you are fine. No one can force you to go over and in some places, you can get pulled over and ticketed - one out of hundreds, if they choose. You can be ticketed for exceeding the speed limit even if many others around you are doing so.

It's the others who are the risk, not the person driving the speed limit. I won't risk my insurance or a ticket for anyone. It's their problem and it truly is, if I am not going so much under the limit as to be a problem. Go look up the laws - no one can ticket you for sticking to the speed limit. Only if you are so much under as to be a risk or impede traffic. Doesn't matter how you think, it's the law.

If they want to fly around, it's their problem, quite literally. No one can force you to break traffic laws "because everyone else is doing it". About that time, YOU get the ticket. And if in an accident, your insurance company may have a problem with you as well.

From an attorney - It is generally assumed that the posted speed limit is the safest maximum speed for any given stretch of road.

There are times that the masses are incorrect. What about THEM being kind and safe?Eh?

These days of "black boxes" and so on - who knows what goes to who in some accident situation. but you can always defend yourself if you are only going the posted limit (assuming conditions actually permit that speed)
I guess I'm screwed I'm always 5 -10mph over . I Never go the speed limit..
I am the Rebel the one everyone else is following . Catch me if you can. 😂 Sorry not meant toward anyone it's just the truth .. even in bad weather I push on faster than others.. I am that crazy lunatic they warned you about.😂😂

Shhhh - don't tell my wife, I set my cruise to 5 above when she's with me, a bit more when she's not. We have our "right to speed" law here so you can pretty much go 9 over and not worry about a ticket.

Go find my post about our trip home during the great Iowa derecho about 3 or so years ago. I'd never ever been told "faster, faster, get around those guys -faster" by her in my life!

I was ticketed for going 55 in a 55 back in 1984. Snow deeper than the bumper on my Eagle, flying up over the car. No one had been on that highway at that point, no plows, trucks or cars. I was the first and only - so I thought. Then a trooper pulled behind me from a side road. "Going too fast for conditions". Man, that 4x4 wagon handled like a DREAM in that stuff.

Lead, follow, or get the F out of my way. Granted there is no actual minimum speed on the freeway here. So yeah someone can do 50 in the passing lane and not getting a ticket. But the person who is riding their ass will. Plus go around and flip them off. If a cop sees you they can ticket you for aggressive driving. Had a cop tell me that the passing lane was for emergency vehicles only. I called BS. I told him if that's the case then why isn't it labeled as such(crickets). They want to come up with their own variations of what the law is, it's ridiculous.

Disingenuous. You're not getting 35 mpg. I can reset the lie-o-meter on my 3.6 gas engine and do the same thing as you did here. With the tank full, your range is only showing 452, because your Jeep knows you are getting roughly 20 mpg.

I WISH IT WAS $50 TO FILL MY JEEP!! try $80-90 here in San Diego. 20 mpg was my PB before i put the 35's on and that only happened once driving to a pearl jam concert at the Forum. Other than that its 13-15 mpg and my wife only drive it 2 miles a day now and i'm stuck with the Hyundai Ionq but thats ok its 70 miles round tip a day.

I bought my 2021 willys gladiator 1 month ago. It had 28100 miles on it. Now it has 30800 miles. Loaded. I wanted a convertible but needed a truck. WIN WIN. I started hypermiling it. Shift into neutral on all down hills, I do the speed limit, 65 on interstate, locked in CC in 8th gear. I think I confused the computer. You can see in the pictures for my proof. I hopped in and gas gauge said LOW, 15 MILE RANGE. So I filled up. It took 18.1 gallons. I got 367 miles on that 18.1 gallons. It said my new range was 405 miles. Im pretty sure i could get 425 to 450 miles using a FULL TANK OF FUEL. The actual 22 gallons. Anyway, I am running the AT tires at 37psi. I am loving these numbers. And yes, I do take it off road, no rock crawls, just hills, mud and dirt. I am absolutely loving this vehicle. And this is my first Jeep. I just turned 55.

This happened with my 2022 JT coming back from KC a couple of years ago. I thought I had pics of it.
We went there to grab a load of batting for my wife's quilting business. It was WINDY as heck. I believe we were talking SW winds 45 or so mph. Filled up down there.
I was in the upper 20s in mpg clear until we hit the hilly areas of Iowa. The open areas i that part of MO meant we had a tail wind pushing us along. The thing stayed in 8th gear, even on mild inclines, there was so very little drag, and it would have been like driving only about 20 mph as far as wind, since it was so strong behind us.
