Who does that??????
...
At least I never do.
I never do either, but ...
... go on youtube and search for re-gearing or pinion seal replacement videos. I have yet to watch a video where they DON'T use an impact on the pinion nut.

Same thing for axle nuts on jeeps and other vehicles. Just did front wheel bearings on our older CX-5. IIRC, the FSM states do not use impact tools on the nuts, but every 'how to' video I watched showed someone using an impact.

Example: I was recently watching a video on TeraFlex driveshaft installation for the JK and here is a screen shot:

Here's another one on JL driveshaft installation where the pinion flange needed to be changed. Won't mention who's video, but it rhymes with vayamife:

You have proven my point that YT isn't the best place to get an education.
Just because you can doesn't mean you really should.
Almost 100,000 likes doesn't mean those likes came from professionals.
These days anyone who can get through something, even if by accident, can make a video and "teach" people - too often, it's not the best way.

Speaking of one certain batch of videos - I grew impatient with one of theirs and they fumbled their way through some front suspension stuff - had to stop watching.

Oh man I couldn’t guess who that’d be 🤥 I torqued everything to spec when I did my front and rear axles about 25k miles ago no issues besides that pinion

Thanks. For a while I was worried about me, too. But more recently, about my wife.
I’m very sorry to hear that man and hope all is well and straightened out now!

I don't know if it's jet lag now or what, but she's doing a lot of napping and sleeping - just like before her trip. But she's like a cat - won't show any signs of weakness or illness and never talks about anything that hurts.

Oh man she’s a tough cookie. I’ll be sure to include you both in my prayers tonight.
