At least I never do.
... go on youtube and search for re-gearing or pinion seal replacement videos. I have yet to watch a video where they DON'T use an impact on the pinion nut.
Same thing for axle nuts on jeeps and other vehicles. Just did front wheel bearings on our older CX-5. IIRC, the FSM states do not use impact tools on the nuts, but every 'how to' video I watched showed someone using an impact.

Here's another one on JL driveshaft installation where the pinion flange needed to be changed. Won't mention who's video, but it rhymes with vayamife:
