I'd rather they get rid of EGR and keep the auto-start-stop
Good luck with that. EGR has been around since the 1970s and is a way to lower NOx emissions. Even some hydrogen engines use it - which is rather telling, and pisses off my friends who believe that hydrogen is 100% naturally clean and uses nothing else to clean it up.

there's really almost no way to get past the emissions standards without EGR. We're 50 years into EGR - not sure how else they'd handle part throttle combustion chamber temps and so on.

I don't have a problem with cats, they are mostly invisible. DEF, DPF, and the fact I can't even put on a catchcan without throwing an error code are my biggest complaints - but those are diesel things.

Remember PCV valves?!?! How about belt-driven Air Injection Reaction (AIR) pumps? Bearings never lasted in those.

We've got a 60's Shelby GT-350 that LEGALLY doesn't even have a PCV valve --- only a vent tube 'over the side. It does have, illegal in one state, centerline driving lights though - (any guesses which state?)...

We still have positive crankcase ventilation valves (PCV).
Road draft tubes - I recall the oil film around the ends of those tubes.
The "positive" thing about PCV is that pulling a slight vacuum in the crankcase actually helps seal the rings (and helps seals last longer) so PCV was a win regardless of the original thought behind it.

Not implying PCV crankcase pressure reduction is was bad. Just another device to check for malfunctions, they did plug.

Yes, and they wore, or people put in the wrong one and so on.
They especially got gunked up and plugged in short drives or infrequent oil changes (or both)

The should get rid of EGR on diesels, in addition to getting rid of ASS (or allowing it to remain off). And allow EGR deletes on current diesels.

And I'd like gas cans that actually pour (like the old ones used to) and without all the stupid mechanisms that, while meant to prevent spills, actually cause more spills.

It's only a few bucks for a gas can retrofit kit on Amazon that comes with the old yellow flexy spout and vent.

And I'm 100% behind your idea of a permanent on/off but I just don't sweat having to push a button. Really not throwing shade on you but the on the idea that ESS is the most important problem facing our nation today.
That's fine for you

As for me, and many, many (I would say the vast majority) Americans do NOT want the stupid Auto Start/Stop

If you want it, then it should be available to you, as an option, that YOU pay more for

However, for me, and I believe the VAST majority of Americans that do NOT want it, stop forcing it on us, and making us pay for it

That's the difference between us

You pay one way or another. If they can't get through regs using this, then they'll pay fines and pass the expenses to the consumer anyway.
One way or another - this device/system or something else, you will pay.
Don't believe for one minute that if this goes away, things get cheaper - they might actually get MORE expensive, not less, because they will fail to meet the rules.

Interesting I have a spokesperson I didn't ask for. I'll put up with this device in order to have the vehicle I want.

Lots of vehicles out there that don't have it. Who forced you to buy one with it?

Software update is not enough. Whether you use it or not, I've still seen the aux battery take out the main battery for no reason.
My AUX battery did take out my main battery. I replaced the main, but replaced the AUX with a NOCO GENIUS-2D, 2A Direct-Mount Onboard Car Battery Charger. Placed the NOCO in the AUX box, and ran me a plug in socket thru the fender liner.

Be nice if they pushed a software update that when you turn it off, stays off until the next time if ever turn it back on.
This is a great and easily doable request.
