Finally pulled the trigger on 4.88 gears. After owning a 2022 Rubicon with 35’s and towing camper and now owning a 2024 Rubicon X with 35’s and towing 6200 lb camper, I bit the $3200 bullet and got the 4.88’s!

The difference is amazing! Hello 8th gear! It is like a different truck now. Better than 4.10 with 33’s. Have to run 500 Mile breakin period before towing, but anticipate it being great! Highly recommend doing it. Expensive but the juice is worth the squeeze!!!

I would like to know how your MPG is affected. This is something I have thought about doing but wanted real world #'s Also Diesel or gas? Did you consider other ratios?

From the trip to the shop with old gears 13.5 mpg. Coming home same route 14.5 mpg. Did not consider anything lower because I run Interstate without towing as well. 4.56 would not be much different so 4.88 is just right for me. I have an ARE cover on back and carry off-roading equipment all the time

I had contemplated whether I was going with either 4.88's or 5.13's. With 37s and 4.10, its not awful by no means but plan on regearing because the RPM's are around the 3's.
You may have just convinced me to go the 4.88 gear route. 👍

Glad they worked out for you. I'm getting 5.13s next month. But I have a MT and on 35s, tow a 3500lb trailer around the Ozarks.

I thought about 5.13’s and probably would like you if I was always in the mountains like you are with my camper. Definitely need more pulling a heavier camper.

I guess it comes down to if you are planning to tow or not! Me not so much., so 4.88,'s will be fine.

Yes that will be great for you. The throttle response torque is much better! I added cold air intake as well. Love it too!

He is running 35's. For 37's go with the 5.13s

I'm running small 37's (BFGs) and 5.13's and it's a great combo. Pull my boat on the weekends and run to work in Atlanta during the week. No problems towing or running interstate.

I also have the BFG's in 37". My concern is that even with 37's and 4.10 gears, while trying to pull into traffic it will at times break traction. That is the reason behind 4.88. It will be a minute before I'll be able to afford regearing and will study it some more.

I just had 4.88 dana gears installed. I was going back and forth on 5.13s. I have a 24 MojaveX with 3 inch jks lift, 37s and full lod rack. 4.88s were a great choice, glad I went with them

I test drove a 2024 Rubicon X with the Extreme 35" option. 8-speed with 4.56s were perfect. At 40mph the RPMs were around 400 RPM lower than my JKUR10A with 4.10s and NAG1 5-speed.

So If I go to 35s on my 2025 Mojave X it will get 4.88s...

👍
