Anyone have luck getting Jeep Wave to give oil and a filter instead of getting oil changes completed?

I don't really like the idea of the dealer doing oil changes... I feel much more confident doing them myself (and it's far less of a hassle).

Has anyone had any luck requesting and receiving the oil/filter that would be used during the Wave oil changes rather than having to pay for it? I don't know why my local dealer said no - it literally saves them labour costs...

(Basically, I want the Wave oil change - but I want to do it. I want the dealership to just give me the oil and filter that they would use. Does that make sense?).

You’re under warranty if it’s a Wave oil change. If, heaven forbid, you did it wrong and had engine issues....... it becomes a legal quagmire of liability, responsibility, who’s on first, sort of scenario.

If it’s important to you, filters and oil aren’t expensive. I do all my own services on my new Harleys (I’ve had three in four years), but a new Jeep? They have a lift. I don’t. I did that job at Sears for pay 50 years ago as a teen. I’ll let them do it now.

The Jeep Wave changes are just a pre-paid oil change. The dealer doesn't get paid for it unless the vehicle is processed through the service system. They usually use a bulk oil system, they don't pour it out of bottles into the vehicle.

I've been told that oil changes, as long as I document them, are not a concern for warranty, provided I have the receipts that prove I used the right oil and filter.

I just can't waste time, sitting at the dealership for 2+ hours while they have an entry level tech who may not care about the vehicle, do a 15 minute job.

That makes sense - so the dealer actually gets paid by Jeep if they do the service? I guess it becomes a bit of a "grey" area of they were to let me have the oil/filter and they don't do the service, but get paid for it.

There is also liability. Like what @Mr._Bill said, for dealer to get paid, they have to invoice that the Jeep Wave service was done. For the dealership just to hand you 5 quarts of oil and a filter and you were to mess that up doing it at home, that puts the onus on the dealership to cover that mistake.
