Yeah. I gotta say the Tacoma (3rd gen) was a contender before I got the Gladiator. It at least had a proper sunroof - as in the vehicle actually felt pretty opened up as compared to most sunroofs where it's so far back that the opening isn't even in your field of vision. Obviously it doesn't compare to the open air of the Gladiator.

Tree farmer now. Retired first responder.
That IS freedom. As close as you can get to a motorcycle, and still carry plywood and 4 other occupants.

My oldish a$$ has ridden 50K miles in the past four years on three new HD touring bikes, so I can say it’s not *quite* the same as having your knees in the breeze... but...

That said, I’ll probably sell the last one sometime next year after I turn seventy, and the Glad will be the closest thing to that from here on out.

Cheers!

I think one of the biggest drawbacks of the Tacoma is that the body is wider than the Gladiator. The openness of the Gladiator is certainly a major plus but the narrow body helps on the trail.
The fenders of the Gladiator stick out to the same overall width as the Tacoma but they can easily be repaired or replaced versus a body shop pushing dents out of the Tacoma body.

Because I live in Hawaii I never got into Tacoma always been a Jeep guy. But then again, it could also be because every dude and their brother drives a Tacoma, its ridiculous :CWL:

I can second this. I live on the Big Island and the Toyota scene is worse than the Honda scene after Fast and Furious came out.
My wife n I always refer to Toyotas as, everybody and their grandmas drive a Yota

Our family has always been Toyota peeps….. I’ve owned several Toyota’s and two tacomas (96 & 2007). They’re great trucks and never had a lick of problem with them. Granted…the 2007 had a complete frame replacement from the ‘Frame Rust’ Recall. 🙄

What moved me away from the Tacoma (into a Canyon) was the lack of options. At that time, the 2016 Tacoma VS the 2016 Canyon (fully loaded options on both)…. The Tacoma still had manual seats and rear drum brakes and was similar in price to the Canyon. The Canyon had soooo much more - power seats, rear discs, and even 4WD auto (to name a few). Sure…Was the Canyon as reliable?? Didn’t know……. but after 8 years of owning the Canyon - I never had a lick of problems with it!!

No brand loyalty here…. Everything is fair game when I’m shopping.
But…. The FUN factor (in the Gladiator) is certainly a major bonus. I’ll be honest, I know nothing about the Bronco’s….. but they are cool 😆. Only the beefy looking ones that is (whatever package that is). I’m seeing more of those around here than Wranglers. I will always need a truck….sooo…..😊

Don't get me wrong, Toyota rocks, we have a 2017 Corolla that is basically bullet proof IMHO and yes the Tacomas are freakin badass, especially the older ones. Unfortunately because of the crazy creepy love locals have with Tacomas my loyalty will always be with Jeep even though they can kind of suck sometimes :CWL: . Put it this way, I was ridiculed for being local and driving a Jeep and not a Tacoma simply because the mindset here with many locals is, only "white ppl" drive Jeeps

You can pipe in a duct to cool your knees and balls.

I grew in the 80s when Toyota pickups were either slammed minis, Pre-runners with their asses sagging, or Marty McFly's black off-roader. I will forever see Tacomas as adolescence trucks. Once you hit 30, step up to a full-size or a Gladiator. Just my opinion.

Wow…..What is wrong with people? 🙄 Although, my niece recently moved here to PA from another southern state. The stories she would tell us about the people down there. It’s mind boggling…..

The older I get….. the less ‘give a shit’ I have for keeping up with (or copying) everyone else. Screw that…. this is my life, not theirs!!
