Hi all. Need an honest opionion on the 2022 willys. My main point for owning one is I always wanted a wrangler but I fish a lot and tow a boat and I have heard even the 4 door wrangler can be problematic towing a boat and the gladiator is a better vehcile for the job. My boat is 16.5ft lund total boat, egnine, trailer weight is probably around 1500-1700lbs if I had to guess. Is the vehicl capable of towing and launching a boat that size? I do a lot of travel trailering my boat so I am literally all over the country fishing (it is a good life). I need to make sure it can handle it. Second, I do want to start doing some offroading. I am in Wisconsin so I am not rock crawling like people do out west but I would like to know what this vehcile is capable of. Appreciate the feedback.

Would it be better for me to save up and go with the Mojave or overland instead?

A Willys, Overland and Mojave with an automatic and factory tow package is rated for 6000lb GTW.

Sport automatic with "Max Tow" package will be 7650 lbs GTW.

Rubicon automatic with tow package will be 7000lb GTW.

These are for the gas 3.6L.

You need to download a 2022 Gladiator Owners Manual. Those tables are in there.

True Lock is a clutch base anti-spin rear diff. As to off road capabilities, in stock form, it will handle most casual unimproved dirt road and dirt based trails. Steep incline, heavily rutted and large rock based trails will be a sliding scale in stock vehicle form before dedicated suspension mods are needed.

For a usual fishing launch vehicle at state type game and fishing facilities, should be more than adequate.

Here is the link to the vehicle. I can't determine if it is a factory tow option or not. They provide the window sticker but it doesnt say anything about tow option. https://www.eauclaireford.net/used-Eau+Claire-2022-Jeep-Gladiator-Willys-1C6HJTAG9NL149811
I do not see the tow package on the window sticker either. That means the legal tow rating would be in the 4500 LBS GTW. Does look like somebody added the class III hitch but that does not legally increase the tow rating.

Appreciate you helping me out looking. This vehicle still capable of towing a boat under the 4000 lbs safely and laucnhing safely? I steered away from jeep wrangler 4 doors because even those with the 4000lb tow capacity are sketchy on boat ramps sometimes and even highway speeds with emergency stopping. I just don't want to buy somethign I can't tow or launch safely in

It will cover those numbers fine.

The "Tow Package" in a standard Sport/Willys with 3.73 gears is just a class III hitch, larger rated electric radiator cooling fan with larger battery and alternator.

Compared to the Wrangler, the Gladiator has better brakes and longer wheel base that makes a better towing platform in general.

This. I own both a '24 Gladiator and a '25 Wrangler and I would very much prefer launching a boat with the Gladiator. The longer wheelbase alone would make me opt for the Gladiator. Plus better brakes and leverage on the ramp itself.

Reading your replies, I think the Gladiator is a great fit for your lifestyle. That being said, now it's a matter of getting the right trim for what you need.

The Willys is right in the middle of the lineup. If you're traveling long distances, you might want to think about the options that best fit your expectations. The first thing that jumps out to me on this particular 2022 Willys is no LED headlamps or taillights. I would expect lighting would be a big deal to me if I were traveling long distances and especially launching or retrieving a boat at dusk or dawn. The stock halogens are terrible IMO (I had them on my 2020 Gladiator). You can upgrade with aftermarket LED, but the factory LEDs were a must for me when selecting my 2024. I had several "oh sh!t" moments driving with the 2020 halogens; especially on winding mountain roads.

Good luck with your search and congrats on choosing one of the best all-around fun vehicles on the road today (and I've owned a lot of vehicles).

Consider fuel mileage, maintenance, 3.6 rocker tick cam eating, vs 3.0 Ecodiesel fuel pump issues. Yeah I'm biased the diesel will net you better fuel mileage but has higher maintenance costs vs lower maintenance costs and worse overall fuel mileage in the 3.6
My .02¢
Edit last year of Ecodiesel was 23'.

The trailer hitch has a jeep cover and it is not bolted to the frame like aftermarket. I was reading that all 2022 galdiater willys come with standard tow package. Is there anywhere to confirm that?

Read the build sheet I linked. Says it has a Class II hitch with is just the through bump hitch setup.

Attached is the window sticker to my 2021 Willys JT. The tow package is a distinct line item option.

Must have glanced over it. thanks for the help. Not to beat a dad horse. I am just trying to make sure the vehicle will do what I need it to do.

My follow up question is if it has a class 2 hitch, which is rated for 3500lbs, 3500lbs should be max regardless if the vehicle is rated for 4000lbs, correct?

Need to look at the door jam sticker, that is gospel above everything else.

Also need to give me the salesman contact info as I need a cut of the commission of making the sale for him.
