I still mow my own lawn, but I'll pass on oil changes. With the fact you can always find a $35 off coupon for jiffylube it's basically the same cost to have them do it and I don't have to deal with the old oil.
JT oil change is so easy no ramps needed no goofy filter wrench no mess and i can have a beer while doing it

Just like detailing my own vehicles I enjoy doing my yard. I feel no one can do it better than I can, Same goes for Jeep upgrades and maintenance. There is a time concern involved though.

The trip to the store and the trip back with the used oil takes longer than jiffy lube and the cost is a wash. Why would I bother? I can swing through and get the oil changed on the way to meeting the wife for dinner (she gets off 2 hours after I do everyday) and not even have to wash my hands before the 1st cocktail. Time is my most valuable asset at this point in my life and I have no problem with that. I'll still install my own lifts, do my own mods, and even rotate my own tires but when it comes to remedial tasks that save me no time or money and I don't find rewarding I'll delegate for sure.

My brother used to work at a Jiffy Lube and then with that fine experience he got on at a GM dealer doing oil and transmission flushes. Lost both jobs for some reason. He can play a guitar but I wouldn't let him work on a lawnmower. I'm just saying.
I've heard more stories of dealers screwing up oil changes (usually overfilled) than jiffy lube. They even walk you out and show you the dipstick before you leave now. I didn't even use the 3 fee oil changes at the dealer because they are slow as hell. No I won't wait 2 hours for a free $79 thanks.

My brother is probably the reason why Jiffy lube shows you the dipstick. There was another scam going on where the oil change places ordered cheap oil in 55 gal drums. They slapped a sticker on it over the printed label on the drum showing a premium oil brand. Customer saw the sticker and thought they were getting what they paid for.

I don't trust anyone now days. I have to do it myself.

I hope they leave the drain plug out one day, then they can pay for half of the hemi swap. Glass half full mentality makes life so much easier.

Wow…😆😳 In a world that’s gotten ‘soft’ over the years, It’s good to see Pirate has kept it’s reputation from I remember 25 years ago. 🤣
RIght?! Now that's a place that requires a thick skin. Even I had to take a break from them after a while. And I'm a retired cop!

Is it wrong for me to enjoy the hate Nighthawks get?
Reminds me of when I got a LoneWolf Glock and my local fanboy said it doesn't count as a Glock. I thanked him!
What is a Nighthawk anyway? [edit: i googled it. The rubi axles with a limited slip? Nice]

Things all fell apart when people stopped mowing their own lawns and changing their own oil.
I changed the oil and filter on the kawasaki injected engine on my JD lawn tractor and will soon go out and spend 2.5 hours mowing our acreage - assuming it gets me through the muck and mud and wet left by our constant rains. But being 4 wheel drive (they call it front wheel assist) and the fact I keep a chain and come-along on the back of it, I should be ok.

My problem is health-wise. I can't lay under vehicles without getting sick due to inner ear issues and my essential tremor means I drop almost everything I try to hold onto when starting bolts and screws. Hell, there's an Allen wrench down in my defrost duct from putting the accessory rail on my dash.

I want to do it all, I used to do it all, I just can't do it all any more no matter how badly I really want to.

I've done full restorations, restomods, every single item on my SX4 was done by me - engine, transmission, differentials, suspension and steering, engine swap, adding in-tank fuel pump for the EFI, totally rewiring the car, adding sunroof.
But today, I'd not be able to do it very easily if at all.

I know I'm guilty of making generalized statements that don't account for people's unique circumstances or medical issues but that's never meant to dismiss or marginalize anyone. When I say every adult that drives a car should be able to change a tire, what I really mean is everyone who's physically capable should at least know how. I'm sure the wife would have a hell of a time with the 39s on her Jeep and the flat may end up left on the side of the road but she could get it done. I'm sure in another 20 years I won't be rotating the Jeep tires anymore either. If you have the means to pay someone else, why be ashamed of not doing things that you simply don't want to let alone those you just aren't physically capable of?

I understand your critical time saving analytics, but are you not afraid of Jiffy Lube doing something wrong? Serious question, as I know for a fact the oil filter housing would not survive a Jiffy Lube in my area.
I do dread the fact I have a bunch of used oil sitting around my garage that I have to take to a recycle place.

Jiffy lube is a big company with plenty of money to pay for their mistakes. If you read my other post, I wouldn't even be upset if they left the drain plug out as the check they'd cut me for engine replacement and time without my vehicle would cover most of the cost of a hemi swap. Why would I worry about someone damaging my Jeep when I know full well they can pay for it if they do? I drift the thing around corners in the dirt at freeway speeds in the desert all the time and I'm supposed to worry about the "risk" of an oil change?

I guess me having a broke down Jeep tied up in legal arbitration, waiting on big corp. to fix it is not something I would risk. I can't afford to have my vehicle down for that long. An oil change takes less than 30 minute of my time.

Our dealer does a great job on oil changes, tire rotations and so on. Not that I never check their work, but they'll even wash off the spare when it's put on after a 5 tire rotation. (although I generally remind them.......)
I typically have other things to deal with in the same trip. You never go to town for just one thing when everything is about 30 minutes away.

Maybe some day I'll be able to get a lift in the shop and then stand under things to work on them - but I've found even that causes me to lose balance. Found that out during PT sessions. Got crazy dizzy to the point I was tripping over tree branches when running a chain saw to cut up some trees I'd dropped and dragged to the edge of the yard a year ago - the constant looking down and up - wow. Dangerous to be dizzy with a chain saw in your hand. Luckily the new one I bought literally stops the chain at idle, and has some inertia device in it - so you don't have to trip that handle on kickback for the chain to stop.
So - instead of doing it all at once, I'll do a few minutes at a time.

Being under the JT, though - within minutes, it's that "sick feeling" for the rest of the day.
Heck, years ago I put the engine/transmission/transfer case back into my car with one arm in a sling using my gantry crane. I had ripped the bicep off the bone in my left arm incorrectly lifting a pool cover reel (and I'm left-handed)

Fortunately we have 2 built Jeeps so it wouldn't bother me. I'd file with them and pay for the hemi swap knowing full well I'd get my money from them eventually.
