You seem to be smarter than the average bear and I appreciate your inside info you post. How do you reconcile what you see as factory planning data and what statements the CEO puts out?
Have to read carefully.

The JL 392 extension has been known for months, it's been in my posts.

The specific CEO quote, “Wrangler and Gladiator fans, and Hemi fans in general, don’t worry. We got you.”

Definitely doesn't say, we're yeeting 5.7's into everything tomorrow.

The lead time on any V8 Gladiator, with either engine, it's still ~ 15 months. And that work still hasn't begun.

392 Gladiators, totally can see, they can charge a premium, get it.

5.7's, perhaps, the fine is 0 now. The next admin can change it, then they can just drop it.

I can tell you, the current platform will ride out the decade now, so there's more incentive to change than when you're working on a whole new thing in two years.

If I recall correctly, it's a payload limit. I don't recall the towing numbers.

Using the numbers from our area - I did some calculations and found that if you consider only the fuel itself, the mpg thing is a wash as far as fuel cost per mile.
It will vary by location, but I could not justify a diesel based on mpg alone because the cost of the fuel would be a wash.
Considering the extra oil required each change and other maintenance, for me - made no sense at all.
Cost of ownership overall is likely higher for the diesel, so you pay for that torque/power/feel and the other abilities elsewhere.
Some can either justify it - by numbers or by preference. I can't.

Here we go - found my 2022 owner manual -

I couldn't recall what the D was "maxed" out at, but knew it was less than the Sport S M/T and Rubi/Moj flavors.

Yeah, the D definitely got less attractive overall after the Obama-era fuel "crisis." Then made objectively worse by the emission standards (which a big portion ignore anyway). Today I would assume it's a superficial advantage to go diesel, until one pencils out the operating and maintenance costs.

I think we need a page here where those drooling, insisting, begging, asking, and saying they want one really badly have to sign a page stating "if they build it, I will buy it". Talk is cheap.

I'd bet over half of the droolers won't actually buy when this happens.
I was one of those very outspoken people who begged Jeep to build a pickup and begged Jeep to offer a diesel. So when the diesel Gladiator came out, I was a man of my word.

Would I love a 392 Gladiator? Of course. But not at a $40,000 premium over the Pentastar. The $4,000 upcharge for the EcoDiesel was palatable, and I'd certainly be willing to pay that much for an upgrade to the 345 Hemi, but not $40k for the 392.

That cost, while maybe a bit high, was logical - the engine was heavy, required heavier suspension and steering parts, transmission and more.

Not that it exists yet, but that price diffrence just keeps getting more and more inflated. In 2022 when we were looking for a new JLUR people were throwing out wild numbers like $25-30k while not taking into account the standard features on the 392 from the auto to the color matched fenders and top to the leather seats. Speced out the same the real difference was more like $12k. Now granted some of those included options might be things you don't want so you could have saved more money buying a lower optioned v6, but claiming they were charging $30k for the engine and then comparing it to the base model rubicon with cloth seats, soft top, and the crap manual transmission was just dumb. Is $12k a lot for an engine option? Hell yes but I'd still pay it if it didn't have all those features I didn't want. Our JLUR is loaded but has the xr package and black hardtop and black fenders. It was about $20k less than the 392 with the xr package. Being it was the wife's and she didn't care about the hemi and hates the fully color matched look there was no selling her on $20k extra for a Jeep she didn't like the look of. Hoping they don't do the same with the gladiator since the cafe fines are gone. They had to load it up and maximize price and profits while limiting sales under the old rules.

I for one; Am tired of excuses just to raise the profit margin.

6.4, 5.7, and etc along with the heavier springs isn't another 50 grand. (I read that you were taking about the DIEsel).

Same transmission. It is bullet-proof. Heavier steering parts? Pull the other leg.

Stella can do it cheaper. They want another PT cruiser income wind fall.

Don't jerk the customer over and we will come back. We will be dedicated.

The 392 JL was a wealthy man's game.

It sounds like the JT 392 will be as well.

It’s been atleast 8 years since we’d bought a ‘new’ truck. We were surprised at how much the 2024 Mojave cost ($70K) MSRP. But then again… Everything else is almost just as expensive when you want ‘fully loaded’.

… as my mom used to say…“You can’t take it with you”

If I had 100K ....I’d rather spend it on a JT with a V8 than a Tacoma with a V8.

Stuck in traffic at a railroad crossing today I did some comparing.
According to AI the Wrangler 392 makes 470 hp and 470 lb-ft and gets 13 mpg city, 19 city and 14 combined,
My EcoD Rubi made 260 hp and 442 lb-ft factory and now makes 320 hp and 520 lb-ft while getting 22 mpg on 38's with stock gears rolling 75 down the super slab.
I may be able to retire after all. :)

Honestly if I had a 392 JL (or JT) it would live a comfortable life of date nights, get weekly baths and spend most of its time under a cover in the garage. I cringe watching guys on the trail beat on them.
So no, none for me.

By my calculations, before the fine was dropped to $0, FCA would owe $5,000 per 2023 JLU 392 sold assuming 15 mpg for the JLU V8.
The new fine is not retroactive and applied only to the future. So they'll still owe big-time fines for current and past models.

But the higher price is certainly all greed, of course.
