Looks good. Do not know what the virgin oxidation value is for the oil, but I am betting there was still plenty of life left in it.

Your wear numbers are trending about average for that mileage, even for the iron. I would expect that to drop into the lower teens going forward if everything else inside holds up nicely.

Keep this thread updated when you do more. More data is always better.

Thanks. Some have said iron was way too high but I've yet to find an analysis with a motor under 20k that was better.

I’d be quite happy seeing those numbers but sample is only 2k miles. I was surprised to see the Phosphorus and Zinc numbers pretty much “double” that of Pennzoil UP. Those two work together as an anti-wear.

I know that too much zinc can cause adverse effects but I’m assuming Royal Purple knows what they’re doing in the mix.

2k miles is early to read your iron @ 16ppm. Can we assume if you took it to 5k you’d be looking at 40ppm, possibly. That would be high, I’ve seen higher in my own and have talked with my lab tech of 40 years working there that “if I'm seeing better iron numbers from some other lab, the best way to compare my numbers to those is to send a sample to that other lab to compare.” Detection equipment is different across other labs.

I don't drive it much. It took 6 months to put 2k on it. Wanted to be sure fuel dilution or condensation did not break viscosity down. I'll definitely go a full year and 3 to 4k next change that I know oil had good life left. This isn't the API version of RP it's the old school RP SL formula badged as HPS. It's not API rated but the API is just minimal standards like a c rated student.

You are correct too much ZDDP is bad but 1200 to 1300 was SJ levels back in early and mid 90s. With all the cam and rocker issues, added phosphorus can certainly help.

The only a last time I used Royal Purple, was in my 1998 Kawasaki Eliminator 250, when within a 50 mile ride I spun a rod bearing. That’s in an engine with a 14,000 rpm redline, that had never been over 10,000! That’s equal to 100 mph. I ended up finding a totaled Ninja 250 with extensive plastic damage with a great engine with only 390 miles on it before the kid went down.
