Honestly, if I'm nice to it, I get better mileage around town than I do on the highway, and aero is less of a factor.

How heavy are your wheels?
I drive very conservative. I’m never on it.

I have 37 Toyo Open Country R/T Trail tires, 4.88 gears, AT, no bed rack or heavy stuff and get about 13 mpg city, 15 hwy. I have a light foot and don't speed. I'm shocked you're getting 16 mpg.

So you are only getting about 220 miles a tank before the gas light comes on?

Does it have a pedal commander installed or something similar?

yes sir. Around that. I just filled up today. & forgot to reset trip to keep track & I’ve used. Close to 1/4 tank. & it shows. Gone. 251 miles.
I’ve had this jeep. Less than a week. & this is 3x I filled up.

not sure what pedal commander is. So not sure.

note. I’m driving to a from Shreveport for a job. & been cruising control 68. Whole way. & have gotten better mpg. Which is why showing 14 mpg. At moment. Before this trip today. It’s avg. 12

I’d be curious what the overall weight difference is between the 2 Jeeps.

But that’s a big MPG difference. Do you drive both?

I'd temporarily remove the roof rack and bed rack, see if it makes any difference. Some vehicles it doesn't affect much, others its does a lot. My BMW X5 lost about 2 mpgs with just crossbars, and about 4 mpgs with the roof platform and wind deflector.

Drive sport up til 5 days ago.

yea I fig Rubi is heavier. But didn’t think that much diff. ESP with 5.13.

37. On 3.73. Everyone said if u regear. It’ll be like back to stock. & improve current mpg.
well. Now I have one re geared. And it’s worse.

so will lighter tires. Or bigger to lower rpm’s. Help more ?

Put Gobi rack & ladder on grand wagoneer & it didn’t make a difference.

Did you reset the MPG on the Rubicon?

I average 13mpg in the mojave on 37s too. Of course road trips usually have the cruise control set at 85mph. But even around town and country roads at 60mph or less it's pretty much the same. If I cared about mpg I wouldn't drive lifted Jeeps. If your tires are 11lbs heavier and the wheels are 10lbs heavier that's a huge difference. Bigger tires won't make it better, that's a myth people sell themselves to go bigger. With 5.13s and mostly slower speeds the 40s probably won't make it any worse. Go for the bigger tires and then you won't feel bad about the rubicon getting worse mileage than the sport.

Roof rack, snorkel, stubby bumper and fenders are all going to make your mpgs take an extra hit. That’s a lot of extra wind drag.

Beginning to think regearing is a myth. lol.
I know few extras on Rubi but damn.
Am I wrong for thinking.
Stock jeep. 19 mpg
Sport. 37. 16. Mpg.
Would assume if regear. Back to 19. Or closer.
But. Get Rubi. 37. Regear. Few extra parts. &. Goes to. 12-13!?
That’s seems a lot. I could see 16. I would think it would be close to the struggling sport.
Seems like I’m losing 5 mpg.

But ….. maybe I’m just ignorant to how much of diff it makes.

The gearing proponents don't seem to understand that a regear doesn't do anything outside of 1st gear that a downshift doesn't already do...automatically. If gearing lower increased fuel economy you could just drive around in 4Lo and get 20mpg. The engine doesn't see axle gearing. It sees load and final drive ratio and that's it. It doesn't know the difference between 5.13s in 8th, 4.10s in 7th or 3.45s in 6th as they all have the same final drive ratio of 3.45-1. Bigger tires increase load. Heavier tires increase load. More wind resistance from fenders, racks, snorkels, etc increase load. More weight increases load. Lift kits and their increased drag adds load. Gearing doesn't change any of that. Sure it helps a little at take off in 1st gear but everywhere else is doing nothing but causing the transmission to upshift sooner. Watch just how little time you spend in 1st gear in the road with 5.13s. Why would a few minutes a day do much for mileage?
