I've had more electrical issues with my 2006 and its grail 4.0L, than I've had with a 2021 with a 2.0L (zero) and 2025 3.6L so far.

Curious what electrical issues you had with the '06?

I've had electrical issues with every Jeep I've owned except maybe the 98 TJ which had minimal electrical parts.

Cam position sensor twice, crank position sensor once. These could have been the ever bandied about "trail fix" if you had replacements with you.

The worst was the entire computer crapped the bed. WranglerFix to the rescue. It's a very common failure from that generation of TJ and if it wasn't for WranglerFix, it would be in a scrapyard or motorswapped.

It's also an old vehicle, and things break no doubt. The worst of my '99 TJ is evap codes as connectors and lines are just getting old and cracking.

Oh yea, the PCM problems with those years. Good thing you hooked up with Mark.

You reminded me, I also replaced a crank position sensor in my TJ.

I had a 2002 WJ and a 2009 WK that both had quite a few electrical issues.

I love having an LJ, but I'd avoid buying anything 03-06 unless it's an LJ or a Rubicon, which weren't a thing with the older TJ. The seats are worse than the 97-02, PCM issues, transmission issues, etc. HOWEVER, like everything Jeep, it's all well documented and there's really no surprises. But god, the seats are awful. It's like sitting in a dentist chair if you lean back against the headrest. Of course seats can be replaced too.

I can't imagine how that tiny engine sounds in a big vehicle.

Many moons ago, if the historical records are correct, Honda created motorcycles that revved with small engines far beyond anything that was thought possible compared to the big V twins of the day. The same has gradually occurred with auto and marine engines. I have a 300 hp Suzuki outboard on my boat that is roughly the same size as one half the power not that long ago.

I like big in my vehicles too. But just being large doesn't automatically qualify it today as better or superior in the long run compared to something larger. Diesels are under extreme pressures and stress but when designed properly, often last much longer than a comparable gas version. They are simply engineered with the proper metals and components to handle the stress. The same could be said of properly engineered smaller block turbo-charged engines.

Neither is ICE power - they keep moving the goal posts and keep making changes. Nothing mature about it, otherwise we'd have stopped with the small block chevy in the mid-60s. Oh, wait, we can change this and make it better - so move to the 70s - oops, more changes, I guess it wasn't ready to call mature.

Carburetors were trouble - some could be fixed in the field, others not - how about a float that absorbed fuel while on the trail, flooding the engine. So go with EFI - oops, now we have electric fuel pumps that can fail.

I'd say that EVs are just as mature - plenty of people own and drive them as their only vehicle and don't have any more issues than those with gas vehicles have.

And by the way, a study by an international fire-fighters group said that your gas or diesel vehicle is MORE likely to catch fire than an EV. Given 100,000 ICE powered vehicles vs. 100,000 EVs, there are more fires related to ICE vehicles than EVs.
Just that the media and forums and EV haters love to concentrate on the few fires that happen with the latter.
If I recall correctly, several studies I've read have Hybrids with the highest chance of catching fire, followed as you said by Gas, then EVs.

I'd rather see the strait 6 than the hemi. The hemi is disposable and heavy, inline motors are torque monsters
Disposeable you say? The new TT6 has Sprayed-on cylinder liners.

i don't think the 6 has been out long enough to be "proven" problematic but I sure see a lot of hemi oil burners on the road

The number of failures from is short history and therefore small sample size is far more telling than the millions of hemis on the road with some failures in my opinion. My last 5.7L hemi ram, a 2017, was at 120k miles with nothing more than oil changes. Not a single issue. No tick, no failed lifters, nothing. I did swap the spark plus at 100k and even they still looked great. I'd trust a hemi over the tt6 for reliability and longevity personally.
