Almost looks like an oil consumption issue.
From my understanding, excessive carbon is an issue on all of the Hurricane engines and exacerbated if the engine is used for towing. Even though the engine has parts that are built for durability (forged crankshaft, coated pistons, performance cooling, etc.), there are other issues that keep the engine from being a durable long-lasting engine.

I don't get this "highly stressed" thing either, as some others have commented.

If I have a five gallon bucket of water with an aluminum handle and swap if for a steel handle of a smaller diameter, does that mean I am "stressing" the steel handle more? No, I am putting the steel under greater load per square inch or by its volume or whatever, but I am using a different (stronger) material composition designed to handle the weight. Does that mean that the aluminum handle will automatically last longer than the steel? Certainly not. In fact, the steel may be under less "stress" as you are calling it since it is designed for that purpose.

The same applies to engines. Back in the '70's, people put blowers on V8's and they often blew up. Was it because of the size of the motor? No. It simply was not designed to handle the pressure. Today, motors are routinely designed to handle the additional pressure. That's it.

I just looked, for fun.

In October Hurricane 6 engines, SO and HO, out sold Hemi's a little over 2:1

So once again, reality and the forums version don't seem to know each other.

Just for fun I checked Cars.com, nationwide for MY26 Ram 1500s there are 19,273 V/I6s for sale vs 8,723 V8s. Granted that has the 3.6s included but there are over double the available amount of V/I6 than V8s. So maybe the outselling is an option/ availability issue?

Lots isn't a great place to compare sales........... OTOH, dealers stock what they know will sell.

And of course someone here can look at sold orders, so there's that.

If something doesn't sell well, you won't see it sitting brand new ordered by a dealer. They want them in and out.

How much are they ordering vs what ends up there? And what is available to order? Some other things to consider that I don’t know the answers to.

"Hemi V8 orders for the 2026 Ram 1500 have surged, with over 10,000 orders placed within the first 24 hours of the engine's return being announced in June 2025. This massive customer response validates Ram's decision to bring back the V8 after discontinuing it, and it has prompted the company to make the engine an option on most Ram 1500 trims for the 2026 model year. The return of the Hemi is seen as a major sales driver for the brand."

So all this talk about ”highly stressed” small displacement engines ….

just want to point out that Ducati manufactures an engine that puts out 238hp/ liter. Makes the 162hp/liter in this 2.0 liter seem a bit conservative in comparison.

Edited to add: if this engine makes it into the Gladiator (and proves to be reliable) I’ll definitely be trading in to get this along with the Select trac option if they offer it. I’ve always said I wished the JT had another 50 ft/lbs of torque, the extra hp is just a bonus for me.

I've purchased an 8.8 liter big block for something, maybe my C10, maybe my K2500...

Good ole unstressed power, thing should nap it's way to 450 tire.

This makes me think of B-29 Stratofortress engines that were turbo on top of supercharged (I think they were, if not they only had turbos), and had an exhaust gas turbine on the crankshaft itself. Or as I was told at a museum, "they built a jet engine, but forgot to take the pistons out".
As a follow-up, I see the new Jeep Cherokee contains a 1.6L 4-cylinder referred to as a "Turbo Hybrid". It is mated to the EVT302 Electronically Variable Transmission. No word on how it will merge with traffic on an uphill entrance ramp on I-75 Southbound.

Significantly better than a 92 YJ with a 2.5 4 cylinder, running totally unstressed.
