Seriously, where do y’all live that you have such a concern about theft? I feel like in such a circumstance I would just drive a beater when it’s necessary to park in a sketchy area.

California. In my suburban San Diego city in East County about 30 Jeeps have been stolen in the past six months...otherwise there is rare crime just vehicle theft. The Mexican border is 20 mi away

My youngest stepson lives in NM. We're going to visit right after Christmas.

An old album title, Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death, describes the consumer.

Thieves will always be able to find a way to clone or create a fob's authentication matching the vehicle, otherwise fob replacements be dealership only.

Maybe require the sidewinder key, the one already in the owner's fob, to turn something, as well as having the fob in the cabin, to start the engine. I dunno, maybe call it something like ignition switch. That would take care of the RF repeater attack too.

Anywhere within a few hours drive of a neighboring country is a target area. There was a brief rash of Jeep thefts about an hour north of LA a couple months ago.

It doesn't help that our trucks are a joke to steal. Drop glovebox, plug in, program new FOB and gone in 60 seconds. Stellantis knows how dogshit the CAN bus 'security' is.... that's why they offer RF hub lockout service for SRT Challengers and Chargers.... not our Jeeps tho..... eff us right?

They literally allow THOSE owners the option of removing the ability to program new keys. But not us. Only the hallowed owners of certain SRT models get this option...but not even JL 392s!!!

I would do it in a second if Jeep offered it. RF lockout doesn't prevent key cloning.... that's easy though... lock your doors manually with the key or door button and keep your FOB in a faraday box. Don't EVER press the lock or unlock button on the FOB.

The only 'downside' is if you need a new FOB you need a new RF Hub. Ok...I'll take that.

Jeep/Stellantis does not give a SHIT about this. It's been a well-known issue for YEARS!! Stolen Jeep = potential new sale! Do SRTs have a 'special' RF hub? Nope! They could offer this to ANY CDJR owner....but they don't.

I think I'll tag @JeepCares . lol! @JeepCares .... can we lowly Gladiator owners please have RF lockout service?

This is a two sided coin though. And there are ways to prevent theft even though fobs can be cloned. No reason to avoid touching th fob buttons. It’s mostly worthless. The fob is broadcasting or receiving regardless because of push button start and passive unlock.

If we go to encrypted bus like other vehicles, say goodbye to customization. Get ready to go to the dealer for EVERYTHING. No changes without a dealer fee, or just a “no we can’t or won’t do that”’answer from them. I want an advanced Jeep that I can still customize to the nth degree.
