I don't care what V8 is in it, a JT or any mid size truck is going to have fun with a 7K pound TT behind it going down a steep windy grade. The tail will wag the dog.

I went across I-74 toward Peoria on a VERY windy day (headed to Badlands Offroad Park in Attica, Indiana) pulling a 8.5x24' enclosed trailer fully loaded. I was using a weight distrubting/sway control hitch (which anybody should do with any 1/2 ton truck). Had the cruise set to 70 MPH. The wind was fierce. Those enclosed trailers are like pulling a parachute anyhow. Trailer was in the 6,500 to 7,000 lb. range. Had my son in the truck with me. The JT handled it like a champion. Pulls exactly like every full size 1/2 ton truck I've towed with.

Not all of us need the tow capacity for big sails. And it's nice to know that 6,000 pound tow is well under max. Who tows at max weight with anything? Not smart.

I tow a 25 ft TT loaded its about 7K with my Ram 2500 4x4 diesel. There is no way I would put it behind my JT or any JT. Weather and road conditions can end it.

Nothing to do with Jeeps really.

I was impressed at how well this F150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost did pulling this 8,000 pound trailer, despite only being rated to tow about 7,600 pounds.

Really, it probably did as good at 106% of its towing capacity than a Gladiator would do at 80%.

But that's fullsize truck turbo life for ya.

Just put the 5.7 in the Gladiator. Enough already. Give it a 6k tow rating and be done with it. Who the hell is towing 7k with a gladiator anyways. If you need to tow that much, you should have purchased a full-size truck, not max out a medium truck. All of this bla bla bla nonsense on cooling is just that. Bla bla bla. If jeep wanted to put a v8 in a gladiator, they would found a way. If they can put a 6.4 in the wrangler, they can certainly put a 5.7 or 6.4 in the gladiator. Hopefully if they do, it is not just some limited-edition horse crap with a price tag twice that of a V6 version, but a few thousand dollar upgrade to the torque lacking 3.6.
Even at that it won't be worth it .
When this Jeep is paid off it will be the best Jeep I ever owned .

Whats the weight the actual weight of that Ford versus a Gladiator?

Best I can find is that an STX Super Crew 4x4 is about 4,900 pounds. That's about on par with a Mojave or a Rubicon. The F150's are aluminum nose to tail, whereas the Gladiator still has a mostly steel body. I'm sure that accounts for a lot of it.

Regardless, I think ultimately the Gladiator is simply underpowered compared to the competition. I'm not counting the F150 as competition, more alluding to the fact that it appears the 2.7 struggles less pulling 106% of its total capacity than a Gladiator would pulling under capacity.

I would consider towing an exploration type trailer just to have a warm dry place to sleep. My Ram 2500 4x4 diesel weighs about 8K empty.

I'll take the steel tube and bed and roll cage . Have you ever seen one of those F150's wrecked. You seen what happened to a gladiator after hitting a Moose thanks to @Maximus Gladius 's unfortunate incident. We know a Gladiator can take a Moose on now what about that pop can Ford

Just a guess, but the F150 probably has better crash ratings than the Gladiator.

Everyone is talking towing capacity, and I just want a jeep truck that can get out of its own way.
I've never found mine to have any issue carrying itself around. I rate it as 'acceptable'.

Connect any weight to it though, and you can tell it's just 'behind the times'.

My other driver is a 2015 Camaro SS though, so it's not as though I'm unaware of what more horsepower is like.

Engine wise the Gladiator is the new previous gen Taco.
