Yep same here.

My JKU Rubicon in the same configuration is now $10K more in the JLU.

The government tells us that inflation is at or below 2% which is total horse shit. If you look at the increased prices in cars, homes, food, and healthcare there is no way in hell that's the case.
This is true. In reality inflation is usually 3-4%

2012 JKU Sport S, Max Tow package, 3.73 axle upgrade = $29,860

2018 JLU Sport S, Hardtop, Tech package, automatic = $39,640

The Wrangler I'm driving now was 32% more expensive over a period of 6 years despite being a similar model. I leased it because I didn't want huge payments. When my lease is up, I'm going to a pickup truck again. The Gladiator is #1 on the list right now... but I'm seeing that I can buy a full size truck for less money, so that will be a consideration when the time comes.
By the time you calculate inflation that 2012 was $32.7k in today's money. So $7k more over a period of 6 years. Not trying to dis-prove your point 7k in 6 years is still insane.

Yeah but the issue is that inflation may have increased, but the average U.S. household income did not. And in my opinion, household income is the figure that matters.

If income doesn't match rate of price increase, eventually you get to a point where people stop buying new.

Disposable household income & the real purchasing power of a U.S. dollar (net after tax) are the names/participants of this game...

They correct for inflation in the inflation report. Duh. Who wants to know that? Lol. Plywood brotherhood.

61% is pretty steep. But it makes a bit more sense when you consider:

- All the additional tech that comes with trucks these days that wasn't available then
- Real tight emissions standards that affect trucks more than most cars because of the torque requirement
- Safety and crash standards making their way into trucks

Fact is the truck today is not just newer, it's at least 60% more than what you'd get in the truck of 10 years ago.

Take the F-150 for example.

in 2008 the base was a 4.2-liter V6 with 202 HP it started at $18k (14/20 mpg)
in 2018 the base was a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 HP it startes at $28k (20/25 mpg)

55% increase in price
43% increase in HP (But almost the same torque figure, WTF Ford?!)
42% increase in fuel economy

When you add inflation, the increased cost of steel and aluminum, and wage increases across the board, it starts to make that 55% number little more easy to swallow.

I walked to school 4 o'clock every morning with no shoes on, uphill, both ways, in 5 feet of snow and I was thankful.

Your mom and I would gas up the vehicle, go for burgers, fries and a shake, then see a movie at the drive in and still have money left over for popcorn.

And the vehicle was a dang pick-up truck that was affordable, even though it was made of solid gold rainbows and plutonium. All cars were in those days. No SRS, ABS, ACC, ESS, EBS, FCW, heck, there wasn't even FOX. Just CBS, ABC and NBC, and fer all the eggheads, PBS. Ahhhh the Good Ol' Days (henceforth to be referred to as GOD).

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say.

Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Automotive industry wants you to lease cars. I think that's why they have been purposely raising the prices. They make more money off leases.

I dont know wtf I just read, but it was interesting, I usually find older people's stories and experiences interesting, but this is a whole other level of interesting.
