My backup camera is pretty useless at night. The lights for the license plate seem to “blind” the camera, making the surrounding area appear very dark. Is anyone else experiencing this or have a solution?

My license plate lights are an annoyance at night, but the image is still decent. There are a lot of street and other exterior lights around here, which probably makes a difference.

You could try some black tape over the upper part of the lights. If that helps, make it more permanent with some black nail polish. Just leave enough light exposed to make the plate visible.

I had this issue on another car where I actually installed the license plate camera. I also installed a relay that would turn off the license plate light when the rear lights came on.

You kind of have to wonder why the Jeep engineers didn’t do the same thing...

Either they never tested backing up at night, or they did and someone said "It's fine, just send it!"

I I thought the same thing the first night drove in the dark backing up. Think I'm going to make some eyebrows for it to block the light but haven't did it yet. Hoping that will work. Poor design.

My Jeep likes my money

Glad it's not just me. Whoever allowed that design to pass needs a swift kick to the head. I was thinking about adding kind of like an overhang above the lights, like a beveled exension or something so it maintains a factory look. Maybe paint is a better idea. SMH. Never thought I'd have to invest time and money into a new vehicle that costs this much. Between the fender liners, back up camera at night, clunks when shifting, vibes at highway speeds, and belt squeel when i start it...this thing better be a beast in the snow this winter to make up for all its design flaws. Lol.

I agree, this is a big nuisance. I back into my driveway and try to back into most parking spaces, so I'm using the camera daily and several times a week at night. thinking it could easily be an addition to one of the uconnect pages (safety and driving assistance, lights etc). I actually looked through the menus because I thought it was an option. Hopefully they could do an update to include that as an option because it severely hurts the usefulness of the backup camera in reverse.

I was thinking about applying some window tinting to the led housing to see if it helps.

another issue I am having is that rear view camera during daylight seems to have a haze to it. Image doesn’t seem sharp :/

Glad to know its mainly the bottom one causing the issue...now to find a way to solve it with a little more finish to it. I'm thinking of using some window tint or some ND photo gels....

That glare is exacerbated by a little grime/dirt on the backup camera lens (and that's a daily thing....)

(this image is what I would call a good day for clarity...)

Yeah I think window tinting would be better but I don’t feel like going out and buying an entire roll for such a tiny project
